BSN transferring to LPN program?

Published

I'm currently in a BSN program and starting clinicals in September. Took nursing foundations and all my preqs my first year. This is my second bachelor's degree.

My life has been going to crap and my grades have been suffering. I went from a straight A student to a straight C student this semester. I went through a separation with my husband, was in a psych ward for a week because of mental health issues, and am really struggling with being in school for the next three years. Family drama, etc.

I'm debating going to an LPN program just so I can be accomplished with something next year. Is this stupid? I know all my prereqs won't transfer to the LPN program, but it will be slightly easier. And maybe I can do well then. :/ Any advice?

I've met several LPNs that were in an RN program and needed to take a break for a number of reasons and planned on going back to be an RN. Twenty years later, they are still an LPN.

Don't take a break if you can help it.

Please talk to your academic advisor. You may need to take some time off from school to deal with these issues. There is no shame in that. See if you can take one semester off up to one year and then come back. Good luck

First of all, I know you should talk to Jesus/God. Hopefully you have a relationship with the father and can go to him in prayer and ask for what you want/need; he already knows what his children want, so go to the throne and ask for his guidance and reassurance. I personally don’t like giving advice such as career stuff because you know what your passion is. Athe end of the day, you’re already in a BSN program don’t water down your dreams because you are having issues in life; you are never going to be issue/problem free until you leave this world and go into eternity with Christ. Just pray, believe that you will receive and keep your head to the clouds. You will succeed and be a BSN, RN. I will go ahead and congrat you three years in advance. YOU GOT THIS!!!

Speaking as someone who got both an RN and LPN, it will not be any easier to get your LPN. The coursework is essentially the same. It is a shorter time frame, so if you feel like that would help you finish then that could be a consideration. But if your life is not allowing you to succeed in RN school, LPN school will be no different. In that case you just need a rest, period. Better to take some time, keep your pre-req credit and get your RN later.

It's incredibly thoughtless of you to spout off your Christian clap-trap unsolicited without knowing anything about the op. She could be a Muslim, a Hindu, a Wiccan or an atheist.

Maybe you can't help yourself. I've met quite a few religious zealots that seem to have a compulsion to get in people's faces and throw their beliefs into things like letting out with a massive fart in a packed elevator.

Priceless!

You have already worked so hard to get into the BSN program. Please follow through with it if you can. You won't regret it.

At this point you still have 5 months to get everything squared away before clinicals start.

Thank you all for the advice! I am going to stick to it and stay in my program. ?

I don't think she meant any disrespect...maybe that's what gets her through hard times and she's just trying to spread some positivity the best way she knows how. You don't have to make fun of her for it. It would be totally different if she was judging someone because they don't believe in God or being condescending...but honestly YOU are the one being intolerant and judgmental when you have no place to be. You just contradicted yourself and your statement. Be mature and if you don't have anything nice to say then just don't say it at all.

When I went through a similar and very difficult time years ago, my spirituality was what saved me. But you have to be extremely careful in talking about it, which is why I almost never do.

It would have been absolutely fine for her to word it as such but instead she chose to admonish the OP and tell her what to do without knowing her circumstances which is never, ever acceptable and puts people off. Not exactly what I think Jesus would want.
