This thread is for remembrances and condolences only. Let's not make more work for the admins and moderators than they already have in processing this tragedy.

Yes, use this tragedy for good. Awareness, education for personal & professional use. There but for the grace of God go we.

I was hearbroken by this horrible news. I can't imagine the anguish that must have precipitated this. My thoughts are with all affected by this. May they be at peace.

While we do not want to diminish the shock at this tragedy, we should all realize that virtually, we feel a closeness to this company, its employees, its founder because of the good work he did to keep us all informed, educated, connected. It is unfortunate that the connection we felt to him and to this community will not continue through him, but I hope that his legacy will continue in allnurses so that there is an open and healthy communication for all interested in nursing. Hug it out, and talk, listen, listen...

I must say that I am just very shocked and surprised at the news I have just read here and elsewhere. If the details are true, it truly is a horrific thing to happen to any family. My deepest condolences to the family, friends, co-workers, administrators, moderators, and anyone else who was touched by Brian Short during his life.

I came to allnurses just before I started Nursing School and I found it to be a very valuable place to hang out during study breaks, share experiences, and learn from the many others here. I have never met Brian, nor have conversed with him in any manner that I am aware of, but he certainly has created a legacy that will hopefully carry on and continue being an amazing asset to the world of Nursing. For all those intangibles that we all know we do get from this site, I thank Brian for starting this.

Regardless of how things came to an end, let that not cast a shadow upon the memories of the lives of all that are no longer with us. May they all rest in peace.

Well said. He created a world wide online community of nurses of an almost incomprehensible scope. So many times it was being able to freely discuss a sensitive and new (to me) issue with nurses from so many different places and realizing that I was not alone that allowed me to regain my equilbrium, take a deep breath, and return to work the next day.

Although I heard of this heart breaking tragedy on national news it did not seem real until I read it on allnurses. Brian, you created a lasting legacy that has inspired, reassured and challenged hundreds of thousands of your colleagues and in turned helped their millions of patients throughout the years. You will never be forgotton.

May you and your family be in peace.

I heard about this tragedy on Thursday night, and being 2015 went straight to the news sites...and was dismayed to recognize the name of the family.

I have been trying to find what to say since, and I realize now that there are no adequate words.

My prayers and tears are with their families, and with the few thousand very confused and hurting kids who went to school with Cole, Madison, and Brooklyn...and of course with the AN staff/mods who called Brian your friend.

Big ((((hugs)))) to you all.

The details are not even official as to EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED that fateful and sorry night and remember please, the family, friends and those who worked closest with Brian are grieving terribly right now.

I think idle and negative speculation is more harmful than good and we have NO idea who is lurking and reading these threads. It's very, very possible that the people who worked side by side with Brian, as well as loved ones, are reading and need our support. Please, please keep them in mind and think if it were you, what would YOU want to see written here? The situation is raw and very painful. Please keep that fact in mind.
