Condolences to the staff, friends, and family of Brian Short. I've been a member here for a very long time. It was this site that helped me to decide which career path to take, where to complete said career path, kid with colleagues, and I also referred other nurses here to answer what I liked to consider "frequently asked questions in nursing". Nurses do indeed cry too. I'm very sorry this happened and I hope the allnurses legacy continues on. We truly lost a pioneer.
I can't believe the things I am reading. Especially from people who don't even know this man. You are reading news articles about someone you never met & we all know the news just puts out whatever will get the most views whether they have 100% facts or not. Even it is true, we are nurses so we know people deal with mental illness & shouldn't shun them or make hate filled statements. It sickens me to read those comments. May these people rest in peace & the rest of the family find solace.
As a former moderator here, I feel this loss keenly. But it must pale in comparison with the admins/mods who are still actively working so diligently to keep this the site it is today. To each of you, my most sincere and heartfelt condolences. I can't say how sorry I am about this tragic and horrible turn of events.
I heard the news today about an entire family found dead in their home, said a quiet prayer for a tortured soul/souls. When I logged on to Allnurses later, I discovered who it was.
I am not usually a frequent poster, but I'm usually here every day. I feel everyone on this site is a friend, I've lost a very good friend today, don't care about how or why, just feel great sadness no one could relieve this family's pain.
May peace and healing light be with The Short Family and all of us caregivers left behind.

how awful and tragic. May time and good memories bring all the staff peace.
