I am shocked and saddened by this news. Brian has done so much for the nursing community; look at all of the support and positivity here on allnurses.com alone! My thoughts and prayers are with each and every one of us that has been effected. The world has just lost a great family and the nursing community has lost a true leader.

To all who are here and enter here: The legacy of what Brian Short created will live on. To the many, many people (let's not forget the impact on their families, too) who run this site, Thank You! Your strength throughout this will be the shining star of the mission of this community. God bless each of you and your loved ones. No matter the circumstances, it's all tragic. Life is so precious. Embrace someone with caring. Nurses, all of you here - the community embraces you and shares the incomprehensible loss.

I am relatively knew to AN, but have already learned so much. I am not on social media, so I just heard about this tragedy on AN.

My prayers and thoughts for his family; I am so very sorry. Also, my deepest sympathy to his family and friends. May God bless you all.

Thank you for everything.

I wish I could have told him how grateful I was for his contributions here to me, and thousands of others. Because of him, I have learned and benefited so much. My love and prayers to his extended family and community. What a horrific thing to have happen. I feel very solemn. May God be able to comfort those who are hurting.

It has taken all day for me to feel something, and I am now starting to tear up, not a usual response for me. Rest in peace.

I am in utter shock, and my heart hurts. May we all find the strength to get through this unbelievable tragedy.

Absolutely heartbreaking for all!

I was shocked and saddened to read this very sad news. I found Allnurses, in 2002, and it immediately validated everything that I had said for years about nursing. Even though I am a very experienced nurse, I always learned something from reading the threads here at Allnurses.

I met Brian several years ago at the AACNs, National Teaching Institute, where he was exhibiting. I expressed to him then, how much I liked and enjoyed, Allnurses, and how much useful information that I got from reading the posts.

I lost a dear friend just last year to suicide, and it was just as senseless as this. Patty left behind two sons, 24, and 21. Her ex husband had passed away a few years earlier, and these boys were left with no parents at their young age. It never makes sense.

I would like to share a short poem with everyone. It is called:

"The Broken Chain"

"Little did we know that day that God would call your name. In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.

You left us beautiful memories, your love is still our guide, and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.

Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again"

Rest in peace, Brian and family. You will be missed. Sincere condolences to extended family and friends.
