Breech of Confidentiality...

OK. I'm going to make this as vague as possible.

Someone claiming to be a relative of mine (but did not mention their name) reported me as a breech of patient confidentiality.

I was called into the office of the big head honcho of my unit, and after some discussion, I am confident that we are both at the conclusion that this was done by someone as a vindictive measure.

However. What, is anything, is my recourse? This was a direct attack on my liscence, my livelihood. Doesn't that constitute some kind of slander?

Lots of things to ponder, I know. This just sucks.

And I can't really tell people or talk about how I feel about it because that would be breeching this person's confidentiality. Wouldn't want to do that.

I really, really, really hate nursing today. :o

Heather

Look at my avi...enlarge it and print it...give it to the crack head...tell her to be afraid...very afraid...and I'll hold my own purse while I kick her a$$ thank you.

recently had a similar thing happen to me the ___ of ____ vaguely hinted that i was saying "some things". My NM wasnt even given the names or many details herself... I said Oh really? Who What Where When?. I havent heard anything since.

Heather we are all behind you! Somebody hold my purse!! :)

Heather, If nothing was said, you have nothing to fear. Try to get your mind off of it. I know something like that gets you - - - - - - off, but try to let it go. :angryfire

I can't believe this sort of drama has been unfolding with several nurses on this BB in the past month or so! Just goes to show how careful you who are actively working in nursing need to be on this site, or any site. Bless your hard working hearts! Allnurses siblings: PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!! :kiss

hold my purse? not on your life it's so big i would use it as a weapon!!!!!!!!! heather , i am sorry you are going through this crap-- nurses don't deserve it-- my thoughts and prayers are with you (((((hugs)))))

Heather, Heather, Heather.....

All I can say is what timing. I absolutely have no indication who you are referring to, although now that I think about it I think I might..... but I would assume the same as the others....simply making a complaint without evidence can't really lead to anything ( I would think).

If you're confident that a breech was not made, then forgettaboutit. I fully agree that you should be able to do something about damages....your reputation professionally, harrassment, etc. Basically, if you have the time and money, find an attorney.

That is my best advice Heather. Seriously.

This sucks Heather! But still without proof, nobody is quilty.

take care, Renee

Heather,

I don't have a clue what it's about, but I hope it turns out OK.

I too have had false claims made about me: My very first job back in '77 fired me (I came back from a week off to find my timecard missing...) because of what a porter said I said to a patient. He'd only been on the job a few months before he made the claim and disappeared a few weeks after the claim (just didn't show up one day...) I got a lawyer and was eventually reinstated (like I wanted to work there again? NOT!). What a hassle. I was pretty good-looking back in those days and the only thing I could think of was that I unknowingly rebuffed him...

Dear Heather!!!!

I am so sorry that this happened. I really Think you should stick to your guns and demand that the NM let you hear the answering machine message so you can try to determine who your accuser is. Then I would see what legal recourse there is available to you ....One thing is that I would make sure this incident is not in your employee file. Let us know what's up and know that we are your cheerleaders and we care. I wish you love chicky!!!!!!

Without specifics or a formal complaint (by the supposed "wronged" party, not some anonymous third person) how can your manager even bring something like that up to you?

As for this and Slinky's comment, I think if there is an accusation then there should be an accuser.

I would not answer any more questions(information gathering) until I knew all the facts.

One of the facts is the accuser's name. It doesn't have a precedent like rape or sexual abuse to withold the name of the accuser so I shouldn't see the reason for it except to give you as little information as possible.

They got thier info last time. this time you get what you want first.

Of course, you can always contact the constable if you need him to keep an ear to the rail.

Heather, I agree with everybody. Sorry you have to even waste your time with this. BUT if the person doesn't have enough balls to leave their name then this complaint cannot be valid in anybody's eyes. I wouldn't worry about it.

I'll give you lots of hugs anyway!!

Heather,

What proof does this person (your boss) have. I mean they made you go in the office and said "So and So said this?"or "So and So said that?" What kind of a relative is this? Obviously someone who is jealous of you or just a mean BI***!

Sorry, could be mean BAS****.

Anyway I hope you are starting to feel a little better about everything. What is happening? "Deny everything"

Good Luck,
