OK. I'm going to make this as vague as possible.
Someone claiming to be a relative of mine (but did not mention their name) reported me as a breech of patient confidentiality.
I was called into the office of the big head honcho of my unit, and after some discussion, I am confident that we are both at the conclusion that this was done by someone as a vindictive measure.
However. What, is anything, is my recourse? This was a direct attack on my liscence, my livelihood. Doesn't that constitute some kind of slander?
Lots of things to ponder, I know. This just sucks.
And I can't really tell people or talk about how I feel about it because that would be breeching this person's confidentiality. Wouldn't want to do that.
I really, really, really hate nursing today.

Hi Heather. Hope things are going ok. My collegue had a similar experience, and me being the union delegate was involved in the complaint process - not for management, but for my trusty collegue. Apparently a family made a written complaint, but when we asked for a copy of the complaint etc, lo and behold there wasnt one, there was no evidence to back up managements so called recieved compalint, nor could they obtain a verbal one. As a result management ended up with egg on their faces and had to retract their statement. My trusty collegue had no case to answer for and our nursing union could have taken them a skating but my collegue chose not to. But hey, its a documented event in the unions archives, which doesnt go away.
