Boldness to Speak

Nurses Spirituality

Published

I wanted to write this as an encouragement to other believers in the LORD Jesus Christ, that there are opportunities to give the Gospel in nursing.

I am in my last semester of a nursing program. It is at a technical college, and none of my classmates seem to be Christians. A few perhaps in name, but language and life do not line up. I had a desire to give the Gospel to every one of my classmates as well as my teachers, but the possibility of being able to speak personally with them for any length of time while completing nursing school just did not seem to be a possibility.

I decided that at the end of my previous semester, I could make gift packages with homemade soap, small gifts and a Gospel tract. I was able to give these to my classmates and teachers, and I also plan, LORD willing, to give them to the incoming nursing class as well.

For my patients, I have been able to pray with a couple of them based on their request. I have had patients ask me why I treat them the way I do - in other words, I think and hope that Jesus Christ is shining through - and they want to know what it is in me that loves them no matter what.

I think it all depends on your circumstances and how far you are willing to go. I just try to tell my patients about Jesus whenever I can - whenever they want me to.

I hope maybe this can encourage someone. As days are getting darker and the second coming of Jesus is closer than ever, I think we will have a higher price to pay for sharing our faith. Perhaps it is better to make it a habit now when it is easier than later. May the LORD Jesus embolden us that we would not be ashamed of Him when real persecution comes.

Might be unpopular to write, but so what! It is not me that counts, only Him! :)

Still waiting on the OP to reply that this was a joke post.

You know Jesus has already come twice, right? Easter?

Also, it is unethical for you push your religion on others.

It is fine to be an upstanding citizen and be an example. It is a horrifying abuse of the nursing role to proselytize the weak and vulnerable who are under your care.

I hope you embody the good parts of Christianity and skip the judgmental stuff. Jesus loved him some sinners, and he was a criminal, to boot.

People become out-of-joint, simply when one mentions the fact that Jesus is the ONLY WAY. That is not a mystery, but it is ones desire to not offend, to keep thing even keel, and to be mansy-pansy about one's faith that is the problem. God tells us that the "lukewarm" HE will spew out of HIS mouth... The OP is merely proclaiming her faith, and letting the chips fall were the may. Offense is taken, and at other times the sentiments are appreciated. Why can't you respect her feelings? It is true that there are CHRISTIANS found in many organized religions... But then again, there are those who call themselves a "Christian" and yet are ashamed, and they want to hide their light out of fear

that someone will take it wrong, now that is disrespecting Christ.

"The chips fall(ing) w(h)ere the(y) may" may be the OP getting fired (and I would fully support that if she is foisting her personal religious views on coworkers and clients without their invitation or consent).

Like other have said, I would not be happy about being told that my faith is not good enough or that the OP felt I needed more education on the topic of her belief. I would be offended that my views were not respected. I do not share about my faith or any religious ideas at work or school. It's not the time nor the place. I'm there to do a job or I'm there to learn about the subject being taught, that's it.

Oh, I think you KNOW she was dead serious.

Maybe I'm just naive, but I can't for the life of me figure out why some people can't/won't allow others to believe the way that suits them best.

I am an Atheist and work closely with a Christian and a Muslim and we are all aware of each others faith (or lack thereof) and get along famously. It's really nice to be free to be me at work without being harped on about my "eternal soul" or being chided for eating bacon.

Acceptance of others creates a harmonious workplace where the focus is on residents and care, our alleged purpose for being there.

If you're so focused on who's more or less Christian than you, where will that leave you're residents?

I believe that the OP probably was thinking out loud.. and was merely saying that there are some people who say that they are Christian, but do not produce fruit, which always causing one to question. However, this is one thing that should totally be left up to God. We can't really say that yes, he/she is a child of God, or no, he/she isn't a child of God.

Nope, this is how Parakeet rolls.

Parakeet, you are not a nurse, yet, right? BE CAREFUL. There is a time and place for everything. School and work is not the time nor the place for you to do this.

Who is SHE to question ME, or anyone else?

Please.

I liken this to that co-worker who sells avon, mary-kay, pampered chef, thirty-one, ect. They would be fired for pushing their "business" on patients and co-workers, same deal here. I've prayed with patients plenty of times and I'm very happily atheist. Religion does not have any place at work, unless it's the religion of your patient. It's not about political correctness, it's about respect.

This

OP, I would find your actions very offensive.

And I would advocate for my patients to make sure you were not doing these actions to them. And if you were, I'd strongly advocate that you find a job where the philosophy is much more in allidnment with yours.

I do not see the harm in what you are doing. Nor, do I feel you are trying to suggest that you or your religion is better than any one else. Its your preference and thats ok. The only thing I feel you should be careful with is how you approach patients. Teaching Gods word or about God is a great thing in my eyes. The practice has saved alot of people and Ive witnessed this myself. I have nothing negative to say to you. You are a Jesus lover and I love that. Again, just be careful with your delivery because you do not want to offend your patients. As for your classmates. You can always invite them to an outing or meeting outside of school and that way you are not taking time away from those that do need to focus on Nursing. I applaud you. [emoji173]️ Remember how people treated Jesus. Do not be discouraged!

And im confused as to how one believes in Angels but not God. Thats like believing people stay alive without a heart lol. Smh
