Best Shoes for Nursing

I'm needing to get new shoes and I was wondering which ones everyone thinks are the best. I'm thinking about some Nike Shox or New Balance shoes. I hear SAS are really comfortable, but I don't like how they look. I'm not wanting to get Crocs either because a lot of hospitals seem to be banning those now. Let me know what you think please. :)

I heart Dansko's. They are pricey ($100-$140 depending on the style), but I've done 14+ hr days in my clogs, and they are so super comfy. If you have a wider foot, they can be a little tight, but will loosen up with wear. I have a black oiled pair from my previous career, and they lasted two years on the job, and I still pull them out every once in a while. I have never slipped, and I have walked through an inch of water and grease in them. BUT, every once in a while I roll my ankle, because the sole of the shoe is more narrow than my now, post-pregnancy wider foot. Plus they are easy to clean. Shoebuy.com has them, they do free shipping and free return shipping.

A person's choice of shoes is as purely individual as their health status, foot shape, and other factors. What works for one person might be disastrous to another individual.

I have short, plump feet that swell after a long shift, so Nike shoes do not work for me. They are constructed too narrowly for my wide feet, so they feel uncomfortable and constricting when I wear them.

I like New Balance because they are available in wide width, and many of their shoes are washable. I also like SAS shoes because they come in multiple widths. They might be unattractive, but my comfort is more important than the appearance of the shoe.

My Crocs have almost killed me-twice! The floors at my jobs are apparently quite slick and my Crocs have no traction on them-and I have fallen two times.

I finally decided that was enough-and have ordered a pair of New Balance shoes.Thats the #1 choice at my job.

I swear by Dansko's. Like the other reply stated "they are pricey" but I spent $150+ on other shoes trying to get the comfort that I got from my Dansko's. They do take about 3-6weeks to "break-in" but after that its like butter. They just fit so comfy. At my job we must wear white shoes, and white dansko clogs scuff very easily and do not take polish well, but I couldn't work my 14+ hour shift without them. I tried shox before but found they have little to no arch support for my nearly flat arches. I heard Ryka and New Balance are also good. I just need a slight incline/heel in my shoes for my lower back and neither of those brands provide that.

I have tried nurse mates and danskos and they both hurt my feet. I prefer running shoes. I love Saucony or New Balance. I feel like I am walking on clouds with Saucony; my feet never hurt after 12 hour shifts.

I've fallen in love with Skecher's Shape-Ups!! Never have I worn anything more springy or comfortable.........I'd been planning to sink about 110 bucks into a pair of Nike Shox at Foot Locker, but instead I wandered into a different shoe store and tried on a pair of these.

They are supposed to help you lose weight and tone your legs and butt; I've only had mine a few days so the jury's still out on that one. But what they do to reduce the stress on your lower back, knees, and ankles is unbelievable.........the other night when I wore them for the first time, I got through my shift without even feeling tired. My legs and feet are ALWAYS heavy and swollen after 8 hours, but not with the Shape-Ups---I couldn't believe how good I felt at the end of the night.

The shoes are definitely not lightweights when you pick them up, which is why I hesitated even to try them on since I like my shoes as light as possible. But they sure don't feel that way once they're on, and they are whisper-quiet when you walk on hard floors.....no squeaking or clomping sounds like you'd think such a heavy shoe would make. They come in several colors and styles, too, all featuring the 'rocking' sole that makes you feel like you're walking on a soft surface. They're a bit pricey at $109.99, but I would pay twice that for a shoe that does for me what these do, namely make me feel like I'm 15 years younger and 100 lbs. lighter. Go Skechers!

Is there a particular style you can recommend? Do they all have the memory foam insole?

Thanks! :D

I personally think the thickness is most important. Skacter may be stylish and comfort since it is designed to shaped with human feet. But it doesn't provide the cushion effect. The feet and legs are hitting hard on the hard ground, it hurts the knees, the hips and the back. I find my nike air does the best job to ease the weight and force i put on my legs, knees and feet.

oh, i am looking at this new snow white one costs $120, bu it is leather type of material, so no need to worry about the stains.
