Best Shoes for Nursing

Published

I'm needing to get new shoes and I was wondering which ones everyone thinks are the best. I'm thinking about some Nike Shox or New Balance shoes. I hear SAS are really comfortable, but I don't like how they look. I'm not wanting to get Crocs either because a lot of hospitals seem to be banning those now. Let me know what you think please. :)

I find my nike air does the best job to ease the weight and force i put on my legs, knees and feet.

Added to the list. Now I'm confused from the things I've heard.

What to really go with.....

Sketchers seem to be a pretty popular choice for comfort, but when I heard about the Asis running shoes & walking on air, it really caught my attention. Now I have to throw Nikes into the mix? :lol2:

Always great to know, though, in a life where you're on your feet so much.

Gotta go with the best. My feet definitely do.

I always wore Nikes before. I have been working in the hospital for 7+ years. When I graduated nursing school I bought a pair of MBTs I had been eyeing for the past couple years. I finally decided after reading all the good reviews to go for it. They have been out for a few years, and are the shoes that Sketchers Shape-ups are copied from. They run $120-240 but are worth every penny. I have not had any pain in my feet since I started wearing them, not matter how busy the day was! You can get them online but make sure you order them from the company or one the company recommends using since there are counterfeits (who knew counterfeit shoes?!?)

But if you think thats a little steep, a good pair of running/cross trainer shoes are good, too from Nike, Adidas, etc.

Good luck!

Besides SAS, Supremes by Softspots, and New Balance...does anyone have any favorites that come in a WW size?

I go between my favorite pair of Keens and my Skechers Shape Ups.

I don't have a wide foot, but I do like a lot of room for my toes, and I hate tennis shoes that have that narrow pointed toe. Keens have a very round toe.

And in both shoes, I bought men's instead of women's. More room in the toes, and they don't seem to strangle my feet the way most women's shoes do.

I SWEAR by Nike AirMax. They are a little pricey (160 at Foot Locker) but they are simply the most comfortable, lightweight, durable shoe you will ever wear. Go to any shoe store, try on all the pairs of shoes mentioned above, and try on the AirMax last...you will be an instant convert, too.

They have a waterproof layer over the top (easy clean) and the "shox" in the heels actually work (unlike the Nike Shox, which I find uncomfortable).

YOU HAVE GOT TO TRY THESE SHOES!

Do you recommend a particular style? I was looking at Zappos and they have lots of different ones: Torch, Moto, Tailwind, etc.

Thanks!

This is the particular Air Max I am wearing now:

Nike Air Max+ 2009 - Women's - Stealth/Urgent Orange/Dark Grey/White

It is really the best out of all the Air Max they have out there.

Just an FYI, if you have wide feet and want super-cush, you should try the Vomero. A lot of Nikes come in wide widths but, sadly, the Air Max don't. The Vomero is a great option.

I switch between my Vomeros and my Alegria shoes with the rocking sole. I have a clog that is ok but I can't get up and go anywhere too fast in them. I also have a pair of their regular Mary Jane shoes that are like walking on clouds most nights.

I personally love my Crocs. $39.99! They do not have any holes in them so I don't have to worry about bodily fluids seeping through my shoes. I recommend getting the Bistro, though, because they have non-skid soles...I own a pair of the Specialist which is the same as the Bistro, minus the non-skid soles...I've almost wiped out a couple of times!!

I just recently bought two pair of MBT. The sneaker style (sport 2) isn't here yet but I found a discontinued clog (sapatu) in white leather for half price from Amazon (authorized seller). Footwearetc (authorized seller) also has several discontinued styles for half the price.

They say to break them in but I wore the clog all night and it was great! Very comfy (normally wear NB or crocs) and none of my usual pains. My hips didn't bother me at all the entire night, which is saying something! My lower back also wasn't hurting after a 12 hour shift which never happens either. My feet were a bit sore but not on the bottoms from walking, more along the sides and tops which is normal for me after wearing new leather shoes for 12 hours without breaking them in at all.

This clog is not the most attractive shoe, I think it looks like an old lady diabetic shoe! The shape of the shoe is ok for me though, it's the velcro straps I find so ugly and those are covered by my scrub pants so it's a non issue. At half the price of the new and more attractive clog (imara) it was a worthwhile trade-off!

Is there a particular style you can recommend? Do they all have the memory foam insole?

Thanks! :D

Yes, all Alegria have the super comfortable memorable foam foot bed, it's what they are known for. I would say Alegria is the best shoes for nursing too. Their professional line features a slip resistant outsole and stain resistant upper finish which is perfect for nursing environment, you wouldn't want any blood or other fluid stain on your shoes.
