We are all supposed to love our jobs and most of us do! But we are all supposed to over look just danged annoying behaviors.
My pet peeve, I do not care for drama patients. You walk out in the hall and they are laughing and having fun with a visitor, they take one look at YOU looking at them and they are hanging on to the walls to help them walk and moaning in pain. I sometimes think my mere presence causes them harm... ;o)
Me: "Great! Your temp is normal!" Patient: "Oh, if it is normal I am SICK! My usual is 72(F).
Me: "Great! Your b/p is 120/70!" Patient: "Oh, if it is normal I am SICK! My usual is 50/10."
Why do people complain about having great vitals?
This happened all the time back when I was an aide in school.
Pts can call dietary and order what they want for meals, or they will send them a house tray. When they call down to order, they are usually placed on hold for a period.
So I would come in
pt: dietary isn't answering,
me: sometimes there is a hold and you just have to wait for a little while.
pt: well can you call down for me?
me: I cant jump the line, they would just put me on hold too
pt: well can you wait on hold for me?
me: *thinking in my head* what are you doing in the hospital that you are soooo busy, you cant wait on hold?
Not a big deal at all, but as a floor nurse I always got irrationally annoyed when I would go to do an A&O, mobile patient's BP, tell them this was what I was going to do as I opened the cuff, and they would just sit there looking at me, instead of raising their arm, requiring me to lift it like dead weight. Is it so hard to lift your arm??? Baffling.
I frequently say "10 being somebody ripped off your left arm and is beating you over the head with it while kicking you in your nether regions."I have no triage filter.
Brilliant! My personal one is "...and 10 is a bullet ripping into your brain. Slowly". Never fails to get someone to pause a moment to consider...!
Never mind that there are no nerve endings in the brain. It's just an image that works for me, LOL.....
How is this thread ok but the one a week ago where the OP complaining about the public who was being burned at the stake not?Im not saying this one isn't, I liked where both go. Im just curious from the community perspective
I'm not sure what thread that is or why it might have been offensive. Generally, I love to complain.
When they ring on the dot for pain meds.
When they throw things, like their water, their call bell, etc.
When their own nurse tells them they aren't due for meds, so they ask another nurse or aide to get it. Like do they think this other staff member will give it to them??
And yes, the vitals... When I tell them all their vitals are good, "BP is 130/72, temp is 98.8, heart rate is 70, Resp 17..." Then they agrue that those vitals are all too high, and ask me to do them again.
Oh God, where do I start?
Patient: "You MUST use THIS vein when starting an iv. It won't work anywhere else."
Me: "Uh, I can barely see this vein and I definitely can't feel it. I see lots of others that I think will work better."
Patient: "You can ONLY use that one."
Me Okay, whatever. **unsuccessful stick**.
Patient: "WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!!"
I could go on for days.

My biggest pet peeve is when patients come into the hospital and get admitted.
Really gets in the way of my candy crushing
