My wife just left for the OR for a lap choley (I dx her condition). We came in early this morning to one of our favorite two hospitals here in Bangkok...got CXR, EKG and lab. Shown to nice room which is more like a hotel room, complete with frig and safe and nice view over a garden area and water fountains. Nurses here wear white uniforms and hats. For those of you who are fashion conscious, the one who drew my wife's blood and started her IV had a nice gray silk business type jacket over her white uniform and short heels on her white shoes. Out in the ward lobby area by the nurses station is an organizational chart complete with all the staff photos. I've perused the room service menu, complete with pictures and have my lunch picked out. The aide bought me my choice of Bangkok newspapers when we checked in and I'm enjoying wifi in the room, although there are two computers with free internet across from the nurses station. I saw a nurse this morning in the hall stocking the meds in each patient room through a locked door in the wall. Nurses can then access the meds from within the room with their key. I'd been meaning to check and see what the average nurse salary was here and found out it's $33-35,000 USD. Anyway, thought you guys might be interested.

The dollar isn't what it once was, but you can live pretty well on $35K USD in Thailand. I got a couple of teeth fixed and a cleaning at a very modern dental facility in Bangkok and it only cost USD100!

Isn't Bangkok one of the places a lot of Americans go to have surgery done because of the cost as well as the standard of care being met?
