I just got hired for a position at banner and my background failed due to a car accident and a few speeding tickets. I have my license. How can i be granted my license by the board after a review and still denied employment? Am I going to have to pick another career field? Is every hospital or facility going to deny me. I am so discouraged right now
Any thoughts....

How were you failed for a car accident?? I think there is probably more to this because they will hire people with bankruptcy and IRS debts and various other things. So I don't see them not hiring just from that. Did they tell you that specifically or are you just guessing?

Were you drunk when the car accident happened?
No, I wasn't drunk. It happened in 2003. i left the scene of the accident. it was designated a misdemeanor and it was on my application so it wasn't a surprise. they told me that even though it was on the application.... combined with the speeding tickets it made me "at risk" so therefore, they were "retracting their offer for employment".

The "left the scene of the accident" would ding you for many facilities. Not all, but many.
You ask how you can qualify for a license yet not get a job. Your being granted a license designates that you passed a test on basic nursing knowledge, received a basic education, and have a basic acceptable legal record. You will find that it has no bearing on getting a job if the employer requires more than "basic" qualifications. And especially when there is a glut of applicants that have substantially better than the "basic" qualifications, that are looking for work.

Arizona is a "right to work" state. You can be denied employment for any reason at all. That includes hiring and firing.
It sounds like they see it as a character flaw that makes them doubt you can be trusted to "do the right thing" when nobody is looking while working for their facility. Probably early to determine if all facilities will see it this way, but it is certainly an eye opener. I feel badly that an error in judgement so long ago can have such long-reaching effects. The speeding tickets likely would not have been noticed without the charges for fleeing the scene of an accident.

Moral Turpitude
You're probably a lot wiser now and wouldn't be party to any more hit and runs. However, things like this can haunt you for a very long time. But don't lose hope. Another recruiter may not have the same strict perception about moral standards as this one obviously did, and may be a bit for forgiving. Just keep applying.
Good luck!

Perhaps a nicely typed letter to present when they ask you to fill out the background check paper work in the future may help. This letter should state the exact circumstances of your issues with the law briefly, and then go on to explain what you have learned from this... emphasizing your gained maturity and wisdom from the incident(s). It worked for me. Best luck to you and do not give up.:heartbeat:nurse::heartbeat

Ahhh! Ain't nursing grand? You have to be perfect in order to bust your rear taking care of sick people.
Try to get the misdemeanor expunged. You could even go in front of the judge yourself.
The right judge will do it for a nurse.

if nothing else, perhaps you could get it expunged? Granted, I'm not familiar with the process, but if this is going to be some sort of reoccurring problem, it would be worth a shot. I mean, it was nine years ago and if there hasn't been anything of this sort since, I would say you stand a good chance. I hope everything works out for you.

Just interested, why did you leave the scene of the accident? I understand why they would not offer you the job. I think it would make it appear that you are not will to accept responsibility? I'm not saying that's true about you but as an employer that doesn't know you at all, that might be what they are thinking. Maybe if you explained why you left and that you're sorry that you did and would do it different if you could have. I think their are other employers who wouldn't hold it against you. Best of luck to you finding a job.
