background failed for banner!

Published

I just got hired for a position at banner and my background failed due to a car accident and a few speeding tickets. I have my license. How can i be granted my license by the board after a review and still denied employment? Am I going to have to pick another career field? Is every hospital or facility going to deny me. I am so discouraged right now :(

Any thoughts....

I recommend you run a background check on yourself and see what comes up. I wouldn't rely on what someone else told you in 2003. For all you know, there could be a clerical error that changed the charge to something more serious. If there is nothing wrong in your background check, other than what you stated, you should seek some legal council on how to go about clearing it up so you can prevent this in the future.

The fact that you were able to get a nursing license doesn't necessarily mean that every facility will welcome your criminal record with open arms :( Some facilities are stricter than others, and you never really know how a facility will view your record until you apply.

Unfortunately you can't undo the past...but when you do apply, stress to them how you have learned from your past mistakes. Nurses with records can and do get hired...it's harder but not impossible.

Best of luck in your job search!

Wow 2003.....at some point I would think it would be expunged. I would seek legal advice.

Thank you for your comments. it is very heartbreaking and discouraging but I must deal with the actions of my past. It looks horrible on paper and I know that. I don't remember leaving the scene (the doctors believe i went into schock). I am nothing like what my background portrays me as and it is very hard to prove that based on the evidence at hand. the recruiter fought for my hire but the legal department denied :( ill have to keep on trying and know that God will place me where he needs me.

meriwhen, thankyou for being so supportive of such situations in nursing. I have been accepted to a nationally ranked hospital today and am upset to learn my expungement has not went through, so my misdemenor will show up on my background check. Anyway at least you give good news to people like me who hope for the best and realize to not give up. thankyou.

i dont know if you have been hired yet but you are encouraging to me because I am in a similiar situation. Anyone who has put "you will never be hired" is discouraging and to tell you the truth, its suprising that people who say things like this EVEN WANT TO BE A COMPASSIONATE CARING NURSE! how dissapointing people are. You keep trying and so will I. God put us on earth to care for people, and god forgives all.
