Getting a Job in GA with a criminal history...
Jun 14 by MissRNBlue803 Thanks for the info but I got two jobs already.... Hey when you got these jobs did your you offense show up on the background check and they still decided to hire you? And if you dont mind me askin, what did you get in trouble for? I only ask because I was offered a job already and was fingerprinted yesterday and I have one misdemeanor that has not been expunged yet (damn slow system). I guess Im just wanting to know if they asked you about your offenses or if they just ignored them? There were no questions on my job appilcation or throughout my new hire paperwork that allowed me to bring up my conviction so i did not disclose it to them? Any advise?

Exusted
I dont necessarily even think HR departments dont sympathize, it is the scrutiny that they will receive if a convicted person fails at their job, then the hospital can be held reliable for hiring negligence. They dont want to get in trouble so instead of hearing a convicted person's story, they choose to pass. How disappointing the system is. Employment rates fall every day, but we cant hire someone with a misdemeanor for 10 years ago because law points their fingers at them. All nurses with negative criminal background checks, keep your heads up, you will succeed because if you are a compassionate loving nurse like I am, you will be given a license and employment. NEVER GIVE UP!

background failed for banner!
i dont know if you have been hired yet but you are encouraging to me because I am in a similiar situation. Anyone who has put "you will never be hired" is discouraging and to tell you the truth, its suprising that people who say things like this EVEN WANT TO BE A COMPASSIONATE CARING NURSE! how dissapointing people are. You keep trying and so will I. God put us on earth to care for people, and god forgives all.

background failed for banner!
meriwhen, thankyou for being so supportive of such situations in nursing. I have been accepted to a nationally ranked hospital today and am upset to learn my expungement has not went through, so my misdemenor will show up on my background check. Anyway at least you give good news to people like me who hope for the best and realize to not give up. thankyou.

Background checks
I was background checked when I applied to nursing school and my misdemenor from age 17 was on there. I got a call from the dean and explained my situation and how I am a different person. I was granted entry. I do not know the laws in california, but if you do get into nursing school, IMMIDIATLEY make sure you have a clear record, or if you do not, and you have at one point submitted fingerrpints, you will have to explain them before you test for nclex, before you get your license, and it will show up on a livescan for a job. Again if you have a record, after getting accepted, file the necessary paperwork to get your record sealed, or expunged because if you do not, you WILL regret it. I suggest doing this now because the paper work takes about 6 months to get filed. GOOD LUCK!

HAS ANYONE BEEN APPROVED OR DENiED W/ RECORD
I was APPROVED after the board found a misdemeanor on my record. I showed the BON that I went to rehab, and proved myself to them without having to go to a hearing. IT IS POSSIBLE WITH A RECORD. It always depends on the case, but BON is understandable and will give u a chance. Remember if you really want to be a nurse YOU WILL BE!

Denied to take NCLEX, should I take an attorney to my hearing???
Hi nurse wannab and anyone else with a prior conviction or arrest they are getting over. I had an arrest from over 7 years ago and was granted permission to attend a private nursing school, and take the nclex. After I took the nclex and passed, i applied for licensure and was asked for more information because an FBI record was on file for me. I went through the necessary paperwork, went to a drug/alcohol class, and proved to the BON that I am a changed person and all I want is to be able to take care of people for the rest of my life. I was granted my RN BSN license after a few months. I just wanted to state that it is NOT impossible to get a license after stupid mistakes that you have made in the past. Unfourtantly people with a criminal past have it alot harder than other people, but it is NOT impossible to succeed in your nursing carreer with one. I encourage everyone with mistakes in ther pasts to NEVER give up on nursing. When it comes to thinking you may not have what it takes, or you forget what you know for the nclex, nursing is like riding a bike. Good luck to you, and if you really want to be a nurse, IT WILL HAPPEN!!!:yelclap:

Expungement and Job Applications
I am curious, I was just offered a job at a hospital and I am suppose to get fingerprinted next week. I have had my misdemeanor expunged, but I know that alot of times it will still show up on a live scan. Now I do not know if I should disclose that I have had a misdemeanor and have had it expunged, or not to disclose it. I do not want to seem like I am hiding anything, but the job offer is from one of the best hospitals in the area and I feel like I will not be offered the position if I tell them. Is it legal for them to withdrawl my application after showing my expungment? Can anyone help, Im so excited and so worried at the same time!
