I posted my B grades and it seems like I am the only one? Am I or are all of you B students out there made to feel ashamed of your grades? It seems lately there has been an aweful lot of talk about being an A student. I was feeling kind of down about the fact that I worked my back side off and the best I could do was a B. Please tell me I am not alone here. I know I can't be but where are all of you? I know as far as averages go in my class of 40+ students only about 8 of them were A's for the semester. Please post so I can congratulate all of the other passing grades as well!
I will post mine. I am finally proud of my accomplishments!
B- Nursing 102
B A&P 2
B+ (last but not least) Microbiology
Anyone else want to share their sucesses here?:)

Nursing math is dosage calculations, conversions (think chemistry!) etc. At my school they have a course callled "Nursing Dosage Calculations". I don't know that many schools require the class as part of the program, but its highly recommended to take it before starting the program if you can. You can also buy dosage calculations books to learn and practice.
I am currently taking the dosage calculations class at my school this semester and we use "Dosage Calculations, 6th Ed." by Gloria Pickar with a CD-Rom included. Its a pretty neat book, its designed to be self taught, lots of drills and practice questions! I bought mine online from http://www.a1techbooks.com for about $43 including shipping. Also, you may want to check and see if a dosage book is required for your first semester. At my school, for those that do not take this class they are expected to learn this material on their own throughout the first year!
Hope that helps! Sorry for the lenthy post!
Christine
No its not lenthy, I appreciate it! At my school I'm at now I looked and they do require a Dosage class the first semester so I guess that is good. Thanks for the book title though, I might take a look at it at least.
Thanks again

Thanks for the info. It surprises me every time I see this type of stuff. Here is a question for you I'm not sure if you have the answer to this one or not. Do you have to maintain that 3.5 in order to continue in the program? Man, that would be rough if that were the case. Mind you, if you had a 3.5 you might be able to keep a 3.5. I started with a 3.5 and now I am at a 3.1. Ya just never know.
Here you would have to repeat the class below the 3.5 (only get one chance) and not raised then you are kicked out. That is at state and private schools. That is why it is so hard to get into the community college (lower grades required and much lower cost) but very competitive to get in to.
My first semester of nursing, I made all A's (don't know what happened there)...the courses wereDosage and Calculations of Nursing, Clinical 1st semester, Nursing Skills, Health Assessment, Intro to Nursing and Principles of Adult Health... I was on the president's list and everything... since then I have made several B's and a few A's... All that matters, is that I feel that I am doing my very best. You are doing great and a B in any class is, in my opinion just a good as an A. Keep up the good work... I only hope that I do that well in my last semester as I am taking Transition to Nursing Practice, Clinical V and VI and Advance Concepts of Adult Health.....graduating in December as well and can't wait!!!
Good luck to you and hang in there you are doing awesome!

excellent post.originally posted by epg_peithanks rn2be, i hope i'm doing something right!
i'm a mature student, used to do factory work...and sometimes we'd talk about money, who made what...it usually ended up causing hurt feelings, because two people working the job for the same time might make a little more or less than each other...it just strained relations between people for no good reason.
that's how i see the gpa issue. i'll give that information freely to a prospective employer, but i'm not sharing it with classmates, and i am not asking for theirs either. the question i ask is not "what's your gpa?" it's "are you happy with your marks?" that's the point anyways isn't it, to be satisfied with your achievement or to try harder next time around.

No you dont have to maintain it once you get it....just pass it I would guess (but I dont know what "passing" is). Its just getting in that is the hard part. And no I don't think I could maintain my GPA through nursing school...I just don't think I could since its a lot different and oviously harder. Right now I'm more obsessive about my grades cause I want to make sure I get into nursing school next fall or this spring. After that I just want to make sure I make decent grades and get *through* nursing school.
I wonder how they look at your grades when you are applying for a masters program? I want to get my masters eventually....anyone know do they look at your nursing school grades or what?

I am graduating this quarter and I am not doing as well as I had hoped I would. I currently have an 83 percent, which is a B- in theory. I am pretty certain that I will get an A in clinical, but I was hoping to get a B+ in theory. I had always heard that the last quarter is easier...but it is one of my harder quarters.
Hello
Just wanted to say that I struggled so hard through chemistry, studied every day and had a tutor. I came through with a B+, I was disappointed at first, but know I realize that I actually understand chem and how it applies to nursing which was the point of the class. So regardless of the grade I came away with an A for effort and an understnading of the subject. Also I would just like to add that a C student makes a nurse just the same as an A student. A great friend of mine graduated second in her nursing class with a 3.7 GPA and she had to take her boards 3 times until she passed. Another friend of mine struggled and made all C's. She passed her boards the first time. I just finished with all my pre-reqs and got my acceptance letter for an ADN program starting this fall. I will do my best but like I said a C makes a nurse just the same as an A and in the end it's the boards, and how much you've learned and not memorized that actually matters.

In high shool I recieved HORRIBLE grades. I really do not know how I graduated. When I started U of L it was manditory that we take a study course our first semester. It was a class on how to study and take tests. After that class my grades improved! Seriously improved! I actually started to LOVE to study and take tests. I graduated with a 3.9 from nursing school. Graduated from U of L with a 3.8 (political science). After that class though I really never had to study as hard and long than before I took it. It was called Study Skills. Actually, it was the easiest class Ive ever had, but it helped me sssssssooooooooooo much.
