B honest, how many B or C students are out there?

You go girl! Those are excellent grades and you SHOULD be proud!

There will always be other people out there who are smarter, prettier, have more money, etc You just have to be happy with what YOU do and YOUR success and not worry about others or have them somehow make you feel inadequate....cause your not!!

a B in A&P is great cause I know soooo many people at my school who FLUNKED out of that class!!

I am in a program that splits the semesters by Nur 1-4. I completed my first nursing semester (Nursing 1 with a B+) 3.5!!!!! I am so proud of myself...I worked really hard and it payed off!! Congrats to all of us for making it a step closer!!! Keep the grades up but most important make sure you understand the work because as I can see nursing is not all about the test! You have to know how to apply it..Once again congrats and enjoy your summer!!

I just wanted to make one more comment about this. I am a 4.0 student but at the BSN you have to have a *MINIMUM* of a 3.5 for them even to LOOK at your application for nursing school. So most of us trying to get in know we HAVE to make As to even GET into nursing school. Its very competitive here (well a lot of places are). So some of us may be talking about our grades cause for us they are the end all be all or we wont be getting into the nursing program at all.

At the community college program, its very competitive as well and they go by a point system and the higher your GPA is the more points you get and you have to have a lot of points to get in, and they only accept 20 "new" students a semester (the rest of LPN-RN, Paramedic-RN, etc)

Just wanted to mention that....abd keep up the good work! I am married with 2 little kids as well (5 and 17 months) so I KNOW how hard it is to balance all that!! Yor doing great!

I have a 3.6 transfr GPA over here. I've been working hard to boost it so I can get into a BSN school. A B is nothing to be ashamed of.Its a good grade, thier are people out their who would be estatic to get a B!! Good job:)

I think many people who cry when they get B's are in for a rude awakening when they start the actual nursing program...

We have had a few pull off an or two in Nsg 1, but now that we are almost done, Nsg 1 was a piece of cake.... But its not when you first come in... Everything changes.. Nsg programs are soooooo much different from regular classes and it throw alot of people into shock... Once you get the hang of it.. You will jumping up and down for those Bs and Cs...

heck my goal for every test is a 75... cause that is what I have to have EACH AND EVERY test to continue in the program. I usually make Bs on the test, even managed to squeak out an A on a test here and there, but a 75 is my goal...

A friend of mine gave me this little piece of advice when I was struggling thru a&p 1&2 (came out with 3 a's and 1 b for both lectures and both labs....that was studying almost 10 hours a day too)

When I wanted to give up she told me about when she was in school about 7 years ago (going thru the same program as me). She too struggled thru a&p AND the nursing classes and begged her hubby to let her quit (like i've done) but one of her a&p teachers told her when she was having these difficulties that he would rather a student learn the material and end up with a c, than just memorize it for tests and come out with an a. He told her some of the best nurses were "C" students. I think about that EVERY time I get frustrated and think i'm making the wrong decision or I'm not cut out for it. I KNOW I'M GOING TO BE A WONDERFUL NURSE!

I've got more a's than b's, but they're still there and I"M PROUD OF EM B/C I WORKED MY BOOTTY OFF FOR THEM!

Ya but for some of the programs you can even get IN with "just" B's unfortunatly.

I am not in the nursing program yet. How are Nursing classes different? Is it the critical thinking skills that are different for the tests? I somehow feel that all the pre-reqs are not really preparing us for the real nursing classes. I wish I had more of an idea of how they were...or how to prepare for them. I'm sure I am not the only one wondering this.

Well alot of it is b/c they want you to learn 90% of stuff on your own... You get this syllabus, and it has all this stuff, and you go to lecture and they don't go over hardly any of it... Lots of reading on your own... even with skills, most of it consists of watching videos and playing on dummies.. Then hope you check off correctly in front of your instructor.. They will help you but you usually have to ask for it..

As far as the test.. HA.. You know in regular classes you are used to there being one correct answer.. Well enjoy that.. Cause once you start taking nursing tests, they are all correct answers... You just have to critically think which is the BEST correct answer or which is the most important for that patient... Once you get the hang of them its ok... But some people never get the hang of them..

Oh boy....lol It sounds scary to me! LOL

Are the test kinda like the NCLEX? Ive looked through the NCLEX review books at the bookstores and stuff and it looks hard (of course I have never taken a nursing class in my life).

How much would you say you studied and did your own work outside of class time? You were saying they expect you to learn 90% of the stuff on your own...is there anything we can be learning NOW to help prepare us for *any* of it?

I have been thinking about taking a medical terminology class (even though its not required) to help out next semester. Anything else we pre-nursing students can do?

Yeah, they are set up alot like the NCLEX questions... and as I said once you learn the game, they are much easier.. You can usually almost always cross out two, and then you just think about the other ones..

As far as out of class study time.. :) There is a alot of it.. I normally come home take a short nap and then hit the books for several hours... It is very doable though :) So don't stress..

I think Medical Terminology would be great.. It amazes me that all schools don't require it.. I have a degree as a Certified Vet Tech, so I knew all the medical jargan, but most people dont..
