but unable to make payments because you can't find a job? I work for a large bank and have been working in the student loan department for 7+ years. If you are unable to find a job and the 6 month grace period is approaching, or passed I would suggest you submit an "economic hardship" or "unemployment" application. Having taken out government loans you are entitled to these types of deferments. Just call your lender and exlpain your situation, because the last thing you want to do is default on a government loan. I just know there are so many new grads facing this dilemma and have no idea they have options...If I can answer any other quesions I will be more than happy to do it..:)

My 6 mo grace period ended in Nov & I requested to defer my payments as soon as I could. Because some of my loans got sold from company to company while I was in school, I have half my loans at one bank and the rest at another. Luckily, deferring payments for my subsidized loans was easy at both (one of them didn't even request proof of my inability to pay). However, I have a small private loan that I had to take out one summer to support myself that I could not defer. So, Ham It Up, I'm not sure you can defer private loans.

I hope you don't think that the student loan lenders just turn their heads when some one doen't pay thier loans back. Telling people that would be spam. I think it's high time the loan officers start publishing the repercussions of not paying back student loans-it's called in the toilet credit rating. You need credit ratings to buy cars: fancy new ones and old jalopies, get apartments, condo's with brand new stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops, buy houses, victoria secret credit cards, credit cards from all your kiddie clothing stores- Wet Seal, BCBGMaxaza, Guess(barbie doll)jeans to tight to bend over in, Aeropostle, Abbricrombe and Fitch etc. May be more of the" powers that be" in nursing wouldn't be so successful at pushing unsuspecting 'wanna a bee' students into the nursing programs- only for these wide eyed students to graduate and find --no jobs!! That is spam- educational spam/scam. It's time President Obama included nursing into the majors that will not be subsudized by government backed student loans- no jobs, no paycheck- no paycheck no loan payment. There's more new graduate nurses than jobs available to them. Some- the smart ones, decided to give up and persue industries where they can get jobs- with any Bachleor's degree. Us old RN's, are deemed"unwanted and unemployable"we have to wait 15 years to become eligible for medicare and live off the goodwill stores until we get to 65yrold. What a future this nursing profession is.! Us taxpayers, Young and Old,( even if you work in a WaWa have taxes taken out of your wages- it's called federal income tax) Tax payers bare the burden of mounting government debt. It's not all bailout debt to AIG and Fannie Mae- that's a mortgage Lender. This is why- 'youth is wasted on the young'---unable to see the bigger picture and it doesn't effect them. Funny thing about age- it happens quicker than you realize. I can remenber feeling that way when I was a young nurse in 1990's fulltime nursing position, paycheck and sick of hearing about the"older Nurses and their pensions. I went in to work, got my assignment, did my assisgnment, went home and ignored all this pension back round niose. next thing I knew- It's 20 yrs later and now I'm too old to be employed as an experienced RN. When did this happen? They are beating this BSN drum- well 20 yrs from now- it will be even more- DSN or greater- just to wipe butt! Doctors have always said- if you can get them to talk to you- Nursing creates it's own problems and shortages- how very true. Holds true today more than ever!!
Oh and babies- they are expensive too- unless you plan on bare bums, breastfeeding and no immunizations.
Not everybody has an "agenda" when trying
to help others on good faith.
As far as those with private loans it all depends on the lender.
The place I work has very similar rules for both private and
government loans. Contact your lender for their rules on the private
loans. I am glad to of help to some.
I on no way am trying to break rules on here. I will not disclose the bank I work for and I first and foremost advise those having issues with their student loans going into repayment and have not found employment to contact their lender to find out their options. It's a bad thing to have loans default and the last thing someone needs to deal with on top of the stress of not being able to find a job. I only was trying to help when I said I would be more than happy to answer any general questions with regards to student loans because I have been working in this department for several years. I am currently almost done with my pre reqs with only 2 classes left to go. I am not being sneaky at all. If the staff feel this post is inappropriate then by all means close it. Just trying to help where I can.

This is an offensive generalization. "Kiddie clothing stores" and "barbie doll jeans too tight to bend over in"? You are apparently implying that new grads who can't find jobs and therefore can't pay their loans at this time are young and irresponsible. New grads from all walks of life have found themselves unemployed right now due to the economy. Age has nothing to do with it.

Is advertising allowed on this board?
I was under the impression that buying, selling, trading, etc. was not allowed?
I feel that this message is advertisement plain and simple, and if anything it belongs in the Student board, but I think it should be removed period. There are other message boards out there that people can find student loan information.
I find it interesting that the OP has only had a few messages posted, and all of them are financial aid related. It seems as if this person may be looking to attract more business to the "large bank" that he/she works for, and is not interested in discussing nursing issues at hand.
Just my $0.02
Edited to add this:
Ah yes! I found it.

We do not allow any form of commercial advertising in the bulletin board post, avatars, signatures, or user names. This includes using your avatar or signature to link to other websites or promotional messages that are advertising in nature. Please note, this includes links to political parties’ websites.

If you are interested in advertising to our nursing audience, please visit our advertising pages for more information.
I don't think the OP is advertising or self-promoting. She has been a member for a few months with over 100 posts, most of those posts about nursing related topics. She's in an ADN program and as her profile states, wants to get into L&D. There are many posts here on Allnurses from both students and nurses asking about student loans and loan repayment options. I took the OP's post as trying to use her professional knowledge of student loans to help others here who may not know they have the option to apply for economic hardship.
