but unable to make payments because you can't find a job? I work for a large bank and have been working in the student loan department for 7+ years. If you are unable to find a job and the 6 month grace period is approaching, or passed I would suggest you submit an "economic hardship" or "unemployment" application. Having taken out government loans you are entitled to these types of deferments. Just call your lender and exlpain your situation, because the last thing you want to do is default on a government loan. I just know there are so many new grads facing this dilemma and have no idea they have options...If I can answer any other quesions I will be more than happy to do it..:)
I don't think the OP is advertising or self-promoting. She has been a member for a few months with over 100 posts, most of those posts about nursing related topics. She's in an ADN program and as her profile states, wants to get into L&D. There are many posts here on Allnurses from both students and nurses asking about student loans and loan repayment options. I took the OP's post as trying to use her professional knowledge of student loans to help others here who may not know they have the option to apply for economic hardship.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!! That was my ONLY purpose.
Is advertising allowed on this board?I was under the impression that buying, selling, trading, etc. was not allowed?
I feel that this message is advertisement plain and simple, and if anything it belongs in the Student board, but I think it should be removed period. There are other message boards out there that people can find student loan information.
I find it interesting that the OP has only had a few messages posted, and all of them are financial aid related. It seems as if this person may be looking to attract more business to the "large bank" that he/she works for, and is not interested in discussing nursing issues at hand.
Just my $0.02
Edited to add this:
Ah yes! I found it.

Are you serious??? WOW!! I am only trying to help those who may not know they have options regarding their student loans. I decided to post this because I have read so many posts in which new grads, or even seasened nurses, are unable to find a job and they specifically state that their loans will begin repayment and they don't know what to do. I am in NO WAY advertising for my employer. I am not even allowed to mention the name of my employer on a public forum or I could lose my job!! And being that I have been with this employer for amost 22 years I would do nothing to jeopardize my job. I also have over 100 posts and most of them have nothing to do with f/a. I myself have posted one time requesting information about the minimum credit rule.(I have responded to other f/a questions though). That post had nothing to do with student loans. And, I got some very good feedback and was very appreciative to those with the knowledge..So, I figure I could do a kind deed....you know like the "pay if forward" concept, and offer some hope to those who are emotionally stressed at not being able to find a job and now have the lender of their student loans demanding payment.
I am truly only trying to help and it hurts to see posts like this where people think I am out to better myself..My story is simple... I am 41 years old and have always wanted to be a nurse. So I fianlly decided to go for that dream and began my pre-reqs in spring 2009. I only have 2 classes left to go and I can finally apply. This forum has offered such hope and has been an incredible blessing. PLEASE, PLEASE know my intentions were honest and good. I am sorry if I made the wrong impression to any who have read this post. I really do not know what else to say....
I don't see how this is advertising, either. There are no links, no company names. From a recent graduate perspective (although I am not in this situation), I think that people that are having trouble finding jobs to pay back their student loans would find this information useful. Plus, you submit a hardship application to the government, not a bank.
I truly appreciate your post and your understanding that my post was in no way advertising.... I do pray this infrormation will ease some minds in knowing they have options. It is hard enough to deal with unemployment, without the added stress of loans going into repayment.
And just to clarify, hardship and unemployment applications as well as in-school deferments, are submitted to the disbursing "entity", or lender as it is most of the time called. The lender, many times a bank such as in my case, has to adhere to the many rules and regulations set forth by the government. If the lender does not "play by the rules", something referred to as a GAP will cause the loan/s to no longer be quaranteed by the government and if the borrower defaults on their loan the lender will be responsible for payment. I do hope this clarifies....Again, thanks for understanding my intentions...
