Dog-gone it... I'm a pansy! But I hate being a pansy!
What are you? Are you a rose, a bird of paradise, or maybe an orchid?
Or are you, like me, more easily described as a pansy, a weed, or an expensive ornamental grass?
As a nurse, patients deserve the strong, sure type... certainly!
Patients deserve a strong and graceful rose, not a pansy who might wilt at the first sign of uncertainty or trouble.
I've been told that shyness (or even reservedness) is good and well as a child, but a shame in adulthood.
Can I ever earn respect from patient or co-worker if I don't become a more dignified, confident nurse.
Are assertiveness classes in order?
Roses, orchids, ever sure sunflowers, throw seeds of wisdom my way!
Truthfully, a little over the top on the flower thing? Maybe?

Hey, for all who have a misguided notion of a rose as a long-stemmed, hothouse flower, check out the site below.
I found this website..... What kind of flower are you?You all should try this it is actually kinda funny. I am a DAISY!
Like I said when I started this thread: I'm a pansy!
Just kidding, the quiz said I'm a daisy. I wonder how many different flowers you CAN be after taking that quiz. Is anyone anything other than a daisy or a rose?

I tend to be shy as well...but learned quickly to be confident as a nurse. When doing substance abuse...sitting in on a group session I overhead a statement...I don't remember it word for word..but basically that shyness is a self centered personality trait. I'm not putting down anyone who is shy..but for me..it made me realize when I'm being shy..it's because I'm self concious..and at that point I'm thinking more of myself than of the patient...family....or whoever I am dealing with at the time.So..as hard as it is....I just walk into the room and put on my nursing face for the patient.
great post.
I was painfully shy as a child and throughout high school and college. But I've developed a certain confidence since becoming a nurse. It's taken time, but now it's no big deal to call Dr's, talk to pt's and families, etc. In fact I make so many phone calls a day it's really become second nature. You'll be fine... just have confidence in yourself and your skills! You're a NURSE, people are looking to you to be knowledgeable and in control of every situation! (even if you feel like a little mouse inside).
Although I'm confident when needed (at least outwardly) I'm still awkward and quiet in social situations. If that's your personality, don't let anyone tell you there's anything wrong with it! The world needs some quiet types to balance out the more, um non-quiet ones out there.
By the way, I'm a daisy too.
