Are you gaining weight or losing weight?

So, which is it since you started school? I have gained a good 10 to 12 lbs. and it is driving me mad. It's almost impossible to eat right when your school is out of town, you do so much homework that you totally forget to make a lunch before you head out the door:rolleyes: The alternative: starve or eat fast food. I choose the latter. It's seems comforting when I am stressed out, which is all the darn time. *shakes head* Pathetic, I tell you.:p

I've lost about 12 pounds since the fall semester started. Mainly because I don't have time to eat! I do eat breakfast, for lunch I usually have Slimfast, and sometimes a sandwich for dinner, sometimes nothing....

Sigh...the bane of my existance is sandwiches! So easy to grab but so many carbs. I've definatlely gained a little.

But in my second year I took a walk/jog/run class for a required PE credit. Best thing I ever did! Now when I get stressed out I go running. And it's been a dang stressful semester, so I've been running a lot lol. I finally got a treadmill and that's saving me time, instead of having to find a decent hour to go running at the school.

I know someone who purposely signed up for a gym class that counted as college credit because she said that she would only work out if she was getting a grade for it! I think she's onto something and that they should make yoga, pilates, or 'treadmill' a nursing school elective! :chuckle

For me, though, I have really good metabolism, so I would say I've *maybe* gained a pound or two. (That's all lattes and Frappucinos, though! ) I tend to get more of a breakout thing! :angryfire

Definitely! We have to have 3 PE classes, they are required for graduation. For 1 of my credits I took a yoga class just this past summer. I loved it! It'd be great for all nursing students to do, I really enjoyed it. And I got credit for it, even better! I probably never would have taken a yoga class, even though I'd been interested in it somewhat, if I wasn't required to get the credit. I just need that extra push lol.

I gained 20 pounds since starting nursing school.

I used to hear people say things like that and wonder "how do they gain so much weight so fast? Don't they know they are gaining with the first 5 pounds?" the answer, I learned sadly, is yes, I knew the first 5 pounds went on, and I didn't care. then the rest just kinda surprised me one day.

I am actually at the point where I work out a couple of times a week, but I still can't bring myself to care enough to lose the weight. I JUST WANT TO FINISH SCHOOL. thats all i can seem to care about these days. passing. GETTING A JOB. UUURRRGGGHHHH. I hate, hate, hate school.

I graduate in MAY!!!!!

Well the scale says I am the same, but I know I'm out of shape. I don't feel like I have as much time to exercise, and when I do get some down time I just want to RELAX and chill. I don't eat that great at all this year though, and I can tell looking at my skin- it's blotchy and I am breaking out a lot easier. ICK!

I lost about 10 lbs, but most of that was from getting the flu/pneumonia/bronchitis in mid-September. I lost 12 lbs. and didn't gain much of that back. I've been depending a lot of caffeine (coffee and Diet Coke) which seems to suppress my appetite.

However, I'll be dropping about 2 clothing sizes next month, so I'll have to buy new scrub bottoms for my clinicals next semester. :)

Why will you be dropping 2 clothing sizes next month?

what are you doing to get that weight going down?

i really watch what i eat, when i eat, and how much i eat. food is a good thing and we all need it to survive. some foods are more beneficial than others like sandwiches instead of candy bars. i just really put that in my mind. instead of dieting (which i've done) i just try to make healthier choices. there's lots of little things too like...

1. if i want to eat after 6pm i do...but it's only things that are good for me like carrots or apples instead of vending machine food (like i used to do).

2. i don't restrict myself from eating fun things...i just don't eat them constantly. there is this 80/20 rule. you eat right 80% of the time and the other 20% you can treat yourself. i've tried to stay away from the fun things...but that impossible to do. that's why diets fail. you can't restrict cookies and cakes you just have to make wise decisions about when and how much of it to eat.

3. my favorite drinks are water, milk, and tea. i really don't like soda and i watch out for those starbucks coffee's as much as i can. it's really true about the calories we drink.

4. i walk a lot. that's my exercise.

5. when i'm studying i go to the library, that way i wont be tempted to snack for hours on end:chuckle .

i guess the bottom line for me is moderation. also, i've surrounded myself by supportive people who like and love me for me no matter what i weigh. consequently, i've learned to love the skin i'm in. i still have "those" days but for the most part i'm happy with me. not everyone is destined to be a size 8 or 0.

but after these years of gaining i decided that i needed to do something. gaining weight during school is just something that happens to most people. getting back on track is the hardest thing though.

What a familiar story...:chuckle

ARGH I gained back the 30 lbs I lost last year! I work full time in addition to being a full time student. My food choices are severly limited when I am at work. I wish I was the type of person that when stressed lost weight, but alas I too am a stress eater

:angryfire I gained about 20 pounds!:bluecry1: I just can't find the time to eat right.I'm trying to have better eating habits; but between school and work, where can I find the time? Sigh...
