  4. Awesome Job!!! I'm in my last weeek of a Kaplan reveiw course and will (hopefully!) be right behind you within the next couple of weeks or so. Go celebrate; you deserve it!!!!! :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons:
  5. I agree. If you don't tell her now and a problem arises later on, she may be even more upset with you. And why is she getting so bent out of shape because you want to go back to school? I thought all the hospitals were encouraging this?!? I guess it falls back to you're damned if you do, damned if you don't! Good luck with the program anyway!

It's nice to hear stories like that. They are actually transporting 150 evacuees to the Tinley Park Mental Health Center (part of which is shut down and vacant) sometime this week and they are looking for volunteers. A bunch of girls from school are planning on heading over to see what we can do. At the very least we can bring them donated clothing, bedding, etc. Any new news, Christain??? I'm thinking about ya!!!!

I can't help but wonder how that's even possible! No offense, but they're being redeployed to where, some *other* crisis?!? THE VICTIMS STILL NEED HELP! Why can't they understand that? Do they think they're done with their job? Do they think that the immediate danger that everyone has been in is over and they can just leave, nevermind all the people who are starving? That makes me so mad. Don't call yourself a "Disaster Relief Organization" when you help for 3 days and then leave. What an absolute disgrace.

Christain, My heart is breaking reading your story because I have no frame of reference to know even remotely how you must be feeling. I hope that things look better for you soon. You're right to try to look at the positive side of things, as difficult as they may seem. Keep your head up and know that all of us here are thinking of those affected by the hurricane and pray for conditions to get better soon. I will say a special prayer for you and your friends. Take care of yourself and check back with us to let us know how you're doing. We'll be thinking of you!

We can all see the devastation on TV, but lets also not forget about the workers and volunteers, many of whom also lost family members, friends, and their homes, who have stepped up to the plate to help the victims. The overworked *NURSES* at the hospitals who have no supplies, no water, no power...I can only imagine. I read somewhere that nurses resorted to manually pumping pt. vents because there was no power and saying that people are lining up outside the hospitals to get help when they have little more to offer. They said it's like people running into a burning building for shelter. If we ever needed proof that nurses are angels, this has to be it because what those people are doing down there is the basis of what the nursing philosophy is. God bless them!
  10. One door closes and another has opened..... Good luck to you at your new job. Hopefully it'll be a better fit for you than your last one. I'm glad that you were able to see that you needed to stand up for yourself and get out of there before even more damage was caused. Everything happens for a reason. Hope you're feeling better, too! :balloons:
  11. YEEEEAAAAA, KELLY!!!!! See, you weren't "bound to fail"...you were bound to PASS! I'm so happy for you. So where did you get a job at? I'm looking at Northwestern, but I live in the southern suburbs and it would take me, like, 3 years to get to work everyday. :chuckle But still.... :balloons: CONGRATULATIONS! :balloons: :yelclap:  :w00t: :biere:
  12. UAP = unlicensed assistive personel (like a PCT or CNA)
  13. You can also take a certified nursing assistant course (CNA) at a local hospital or community college. Classes are usually one semester long and would allow you to go directly to work. You'll learn really quick whether nursing is for you because I believe that the nursing assistants are the backbone of the patient care. I work as a nursing assistant right now while I get my BSN. The BSN program itself is considered a 4-year program, but when I looked into an ADN program a few years ago, with all the classes they require to start, despite the fact that it's considered 2-years, the length of time totaled about the same as a BSN.
  14. GO SEE IT!!!! My boyfriend and I went and they have absolutely EVERYTHING you can think of and even things you haven't. It's called "Body Worlds" and is only here until Labor Day weekend, last I heard (call to check, though because it may have beeen changed). So good that I'm actually planning on going again. The artist was able to find poses and positions that are educational and artistic. I think it would be great for a child old enough to ask questions about what things are. They even have diseased organs (cirrhotic liver, left side cardiac hyertrophy, pancreatitis, ovarian cysts, tumor filled lungs....) AND they even have a pregnant woman with her 8-month old baby still in utero (my personal favorite). GO SEE IT!!! It's worth every penny. Just talking about it makes me want to go back this weekend now! :)
