April 2008 NCLEX test takers, COME ON IN!

Per the request of janina08 ;) I've started the April NCLEX takers support group. When do you take it? What are you using to study? Would anyone like to review any of the systems/meds that he/she feels weakest on? Let's keep each other in our prayers and good thoughts as we go through one of the biggest experiences of our lives. :) :nurse:

I realized rose's exam is tomorrow. So, I'm just going to post some information for revision purposes:

1) Standard precautions:

Goal: prevent nurse from transmitting diseases to another patient and to herself.

2) Airborne precautions:

Infection caused by organisms suspended in the air for long period of time.

Tuberculosis, Measles (Rubella), Chicken pox (Varicella Z) - MTV

Intervention:

Private room

Health care workers: wear HEPA mask or N-95 mask

3) Droplet Precautions:

Organisms suspended in droplets that can travel 3 feet, but not suspended for long period of time.

Influenza, mumps, pertusis, rubella (german measles), diphtheria, pneumonia, scarlet fever, streptococcal pharyngitis, meningitis

Intervention:

Private room OR Room with client with same illness (no closer than 3 feet with one another)

Caregivers: Wear ask

Door can remain open

4) Contact precautions:

Organisms spread by direct contac.

Rsv

scabies

colonization with MRSA

VRE

Intervention: Private room or room with client with same condition.

Care givers: Wear gloves, gowns (when entering room)

Wash hand with anti-microbial soap BEFORE leaving client's room

Equipment used leave in client's room - DISINFECT before used by anyone else.

Transport only for ESSENTIAL procedures

Normal lab value PT = 12-20 (same number as normal respiratory rate number)

Room assignment:

No cohort POST OP patient with Patient(s) who is:

vomiting

diarrhea

open wounds

chest tube drainage

Hospital triage: Care for patient with LIFE-THREATENING illness/injury first

Disaster triage: Triage those first who can be SAVED with LEAST use of resources.
