April 2008 NCLEX test takers, COME ON IN!

Published

Per the request of janina08 ;) I've started the April NCLEX takers support group. When do you take it? What are you using to study? Would anyone like to review any of the systems/meds that he/she feels weakest on? Let's keep each other in our prayers and good thoughts as we go through one of the biggest experiences of our lives. :) :nurse:

I am planning to buy the Exam cram, is it really a good review? did it helped you a lot. What review materials did you used beside that? I am doing saunders and all of the notes that was posted here.

Hi missmykids,

If you are near any bookstore, please just go there and scan these books and make note and study. For me, when I write and study, I tend to learn better than just reading. So that's what I did last four days before mye xam, I went there and checked the books there and made notes.

Exam cram is good yes only after you know the content well from saunders. Like it's easy to forget the information after 2-3 months of studying, the old ones we m;ust have studied. In that case, just before exam to just go through exam cram is a good idea - helps wake up the material hidden in the storage rooms of our brain. I would advise you to go to the bookstore and spend some days there, make note and study (if you spend maybe 11 hours there, u can finish it in one day I think).

I did Saunders for the most part (Did the questions and read every rationale, whether I got it right or wrong and Lot of the times I checked the strategy also just to see, if I was thinking along the line of hte writers or not. It was helpful to me, that way helped me to see what I was doing right or what I was doing wrong.

And then I read the strategy book Kaplan ( I did maybe 25 question from that - did horrible on those questions-even after knowing hte information and content, I was getting the questions wrong. So I was very worried) And then s omeone posted 4tests.com something like that site here on the site, and I did maybe 51 questions from that kaplan online exam. I got maybe 55% on that.

I studied some from ATI - like knowing hte normals. For me knowing the normal helped me a lot. Like for Endocrine. ATI has a list of all the endocrine and exocrine glands, the hormones that each of the release and the function of each of those hormones. Now just knowing hta tinformation, it was very easy for me to learn cushing's , addisons, and other endocrine disorders. Since I know the normal, the conditions was easy to figure out.

I would say, just keep doing your saunders quersiton. If you find yourself weak in certain area, u can read it from the book or find information on Web. I'm a v isual learner and I do better looking at the picture. So while studying traction, I would google tractions and look at them carefully, it was helpful

And then there was this other book in barnes and noble. The name was: I forgot: it was thin but it had all information in PICTURES. So it was helpful. i think the name was nursing mad easy.

And then I just basically looked through the PDQ for RN.

I still can't believe I passed. Coz I feel like I knew content, but not like pass with 70 or 80. All praise to God. Prayers and support from you guys definitely carried me through :icon_hug:

So, I'll say if there is a bookstore go there and make notes and study. I'll also post the notes I made in Barnes and nobles here, every chance I get :icon_hug:

And also studying system by system was very helpful to me. Finish one system in study mode and then only go unto another system.

I still dunno how much I scored in Saunders' exams, coz I didn't do exam mode, and before exam I didn't wanted to freak myself out so I didn't do it. But on Kaplan that I did 51 question online, it was horrible 55%

moments im soo soo happy for u! i knew u could do it and i just want to say that i know in my heart that u will be an amazing nurse coz u have ur heart and mind at the right place.. once again congratulations.. :redpinkhe:redpinkhe:redpinkhe

You are welcome hun. And thank u again. Yeah, def. with time, if it is like 3 months and more we begin to forget I think. I mean not forget forget, but it's not fresh like yesterday's material. They say, repetition is the mother of retention, so we just have to repeat it. Yeah! Have faith in God and on you, you'll definitely pass it. I know you have been working very hardddd. WE are all praying and rooting and cheering for you and other april family members. So, just keep doing what u have been doing, and if there is any information u need to know or find, let me know. I can help too. MOre the merrier u know :D

This was my refuge and you g uys were my refuge, whenI Felt low, w hen I felt down, when I felt sad, when I felt happy, when I felt up in the clouds. When things were rough, I came and vented here, spreading negativity around, but I'm so glad today I can spread positivity. :)

I'l come back and post more infor laters guys.
