April 2008 NCLEX test takers, COME ON IN!

Per the request of janina08 ;) I've started the April NCLEX takers support group. When do you take it? What are you using to study? Would anyone like to review any of the systems/meds that he/she feels weakest on? Let's keep each other in our prayers and good thoughts as we go through one of the biggest experiences of our lives. :) :nurse:

Thank you so much, MomenTs. :icon_hug: You are going to make a terrific nurse. :) I'm just scared because everytime I take a stupid practice exam, most of the time I get in the 50% range. I'm so scared that won't be enough. :( I want to pass it the first time and be done with it!

hi everybody,

i just wanted to share something with you guys. all of us are in a constant state of panic until we take the test. in fact i read how some of you guys are physically sick when taking it. this is something i used that worked for me to kept myself calm and focus.

we usually are very nervous, but not because of test itself, but for the implications and ramifications of failing it. we start thinking about our families, money issues and a lot of other stuff not related with nclex or nursing, for all that matters, but that would be very much affected depending on our performance in the test.

someone told me to have a mantra, like a 4 or 5 word sentence that we can repeat ourselves when we start to panic. this can be whatever you want. encourage words, prayers (remember 5 words. psalms are beautiful but this is not really the moment), whatever works for you. the rationale is based on that you can have your hand open and closed at the same time. you either have it open or have it closed, so you choose how to have it depending on the moment and the circumstance. in the same way, you can't think about all your worries and your fears and the test at the same time. your mind is going to focus in just one thing, so we need to try to focus in what you know from school and all the tests questions and hours you dedicated to study instead of what your spouse or friends are going to say, or what are you going to do if you fail and have to wait 45-90 days to take the test again.

this really worked for me. during the test every time i've got a question i did not know or i wasn't sure i started repeating my "mantra" and then my mind was filled with that until the panic goes and you can re focus on the test.

i was a little skeptic with this (trust me, i'm so not the new wave-mantra type of person) but i used and passed.

can i just say that i'm feeling super nauseous and terrified?! i'm going to spend my entire day tomorrow studying lab values, infection control and whatever else i can think of.

i'm shaking a little bit even as i write this. :( i'm sorry everyone. i'm just feeling really scared.

i hear you there mave and i am feeling the same way too, but my husband keeps boosting up my moral as well as our april family who continuously giving important inputs, support and prayers. i believe we have the knowledge, courage/determination and the anxiety (but have to knock it down) so we could think clearly and concentrate during exam. we worked hard for this exam. we will pass!!!

To rest of you guys who are testing soon and bit scared, please don't be scared. It's natural to feel that way, but please don't let it get to you. Before exam, I stumbled on this verse in proverbs 16:3 - "Ask the Lord to bless your plans and you will be successful in carrying them out." And it's so true guys. I'm a living testimony. And, "the shortest distance between your problem and a solution is the distance between your knees and the floor." I am praying for you all and rooting for you all yayyyy! You all know more than you think you know, so please don't let anything/anyone stop you from reaching for your license. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. God bless.

thanks moments .....thanks a lot ..........the last 2 days its terribly freaking me out a lot.........felt like rescheduling d test ...i dont know i couldnt evn tell i have a 15 wk old baby ......some times i couldnt even concentrate 2 meet his needs ...........and have a guilty feeling of not really paying the attention ...you know wht this is d best time 2 spend more with d child ..i couldnt clouldnt ......and evn couldnt enjoy his playing.........thank u dear .....4 ur information.....whn u replied me its a feeling like somebody is really caring evnif we dnt knweach other ,,,,,,dont worry my prayers r thr with u........gud luuck!!!!!!!hope for d best

You are welcome hun. It must be difficult for you with a 15 week old baby. All these sacrifices we have to make. But I promise you, when you see your name on your BON, it's worth it. Please try not to feel guilty, try to spend time with your child, but at the same time, try to study also. It must be really difficult. Me, I couldn't possibly do that perhaps. My hats off to you guys who do it with kids, wow. Please dont' let the fear factor get to you. You have been studying hard and you have the whole squat team c heering and praying for you and all april test takers, so please don't get scared. And look at our group: congratulations after name after name, that should say it all. God is good, so please don't get scared and study hard. And, I'll post information I think is valuable whenever I get a chance. :icon_hug:
