Hi Everyone,
Anyone else out there applying to Broward Community College for the Jan 2009 start date?!!! :clown:I'm so nervous and the application period hasn't even opened yet!
For those of you who were admitted on the point system, what kind of gpa did you have? Were any of you able to use your HOSA waiver? I know that they have eliminated the waiting list. I am going to meet with an advisor next Friday to look at my transfer credits. I hope I get in!
LeavingTeaching,
THanks for the advice about speaking to some of the current students who are in the program at the central campus. All of these little tips will come in handy and hopefully make things just a little easier when the time comes. Sounds like the program is hard enough--having a decent clinical instructor or lecture professor could make a difference.
Hope things are going well for you!
Thanks again
Hi all:
I am a 2nd career student as well/ leaving accounting to join BC north. (Hi Olive and 2bnurse1...see you in January!!)
4 of my classmates from Micro/A&P got their decline emails this morning (on a Sat at 11am), so I guess the college works on the weekend.
2 of them had a:
3.0 Program GPA and 3.2 Program GPA
I haven't heard anything yet, so no news- is good news, I guess!
3.47 Program GPA, 3.2 Overall
***They focus on your program GPA, give 1 point for Broward Residency and add 5 points for HOSA grads***
Good luck everyone!!
OMG!!! I am so glad I entered bcc when I did, because I would be stressed too--- and I know I would of given up, after being rejected so many times--then to be rejected from bcc would of been a major dissapointment, I would of had to change my major & I can honestly tell everyone here that I cannot see myself doing anything else for a living but nursing!! but I definitely not saw myself working as a nursing assistant forever.
My thoughts exactly. I'm happy I applied and entered last Jan. I would have probably been rejected as well. My program GPA was only a 3.2. I took A&P and the labs dual enrolled in high school. I got a C in A&P I and the lab and B's in A&P II and the lab. Neither my bachelor's GPA nor my A's in my master's coursework could have helped me. But I'm in the program and doing well, all A's and B's thus far. I have classmates who entered the program with a 4.0 program GPA and are barely passing. I'm so grateful that I applied last year. If not, I wouldn't have made it.
Good Luck to you all who are waiting to hear.
OMG, now I am scared.
Here is what my transcript says:
For This PGM ID 09.00 09.00 09.00 33.00 3.66
TRANSFER CUM 00.00 00.00 00.00 00.00 0.00
LOCAL INST CUM 17.00 17.00 17.00 62.00 3.64
OVERALL CUM 17.00 17.00 17.00 62.00 3.64
Right now it says my "program GPA" is 3.66, but I took a pysch class to fulfill my Behavioral Science general education requirement, so I think my GPA right now is just 3.5 for just the pre-reqs- A in English, B in Chem. I'm taking A&P 1 right now but I'm getting a B in lecture and an A in lab so far. I'm hoping to really do well on the next 2 tests in lecture to get an A.
So how exactly do you figure out your GPA for classes like the labs that are only 1 credit hour versus the lecture thats 3 hrs if I were to get a B in lecture and an A in lab- anyone know?
Man, I hope there are a lot of low GPA's applying when I'll be applying a year from now!

Man, I hope there are a lot of low GPA's applying when I'll be applying a year from now!
Here's an example with the following grades: A&P I and lab C's, A&P II and lab B's, Chem A, ENC A
A&P I Lecture = 3 credits X 2 © = 6 points
A&P I Lab = 1 credit X 2 © = 2
A&P II Lecture = 3 credits X 3 (B) = 9
A&P II Lab = 1 credit X 3 (B) = 3
Chem = 3 credits X 4 (A) = 12
ENC = 3 credit X 4 (A) = 12
Then, add up points 6+2+9+3+12+12 = 44 total points
Divide the total points by the total number of credits
44/14 = 3.14 program GPA for admissions purposes.
This may differ from what's on your transcript because the nursing program doesn't calculate in the humanities or psych classes.
