Hi Everyone,
Anyone else out there applying to Broward Community College for the Jan 2009 start date?!!! :clown:I'm so nervous and the application period hasn't even opened yet!
For those of you who were admitted on the point system, what kind of gpa did you have? Were any of you able to use your HOSA waiver? I know that they have eliminated the waiting list. I am going to meet with an advisor next Friday to look at my transfer credits. I hope I get in!
She didn't have HOSA. She put in her at at Central. Her email came early in the moring. What is your GPA?She also had lots of Organic Chem classes- all As , lots of calc classes etc
Ifyou tell me your gpa, I may be able to help you out here.
I have a 3.6 program gpa, have all the cu credits and the healthcore done and also have the credits for the other classes completed (e.g. psy, humanities, etc.). I'm enrolled in the micro and micro lab now and finish in December.
I didn't receive credit for living in Broward or for HOSA.
No letter yet.
The fact that your gpa is 3.6 = good (I'm assuming tht that is program gpa)
The fact that you don't live in Broward = bad
The fact that you don't have Hosa= neutral- she didn't either
The fact that you are enrolled in Micro and not completed even though it is not required = neutral but not good
The fact that you have not gotten an email= good
I would say double check that you gave them the correct email address, and sit tight. Your GPA is good enough, hopefully, it doesn't come down to who has completed other requirements.
My other sister who didn't get in had 3.1gpa, core, currently enrolled in micro, no HOSA but lives in broward. However, she knows someone who had a 3.1gpa buthad HOSA and lives in Broward and got in.
I think that you will be fine. Relax.
Wow, I'm really getting nervous here and I'm not applying for a while still. I didn't do anything HOSA related in high school, so there's 5 points right there. I'm currently getting a B in AP1, so my GPA at the end of this semester will probably be 3.4. If that happens, I need to make sure I get A's in AP2 lecture and lab so that I could end up with 3.57, which only gives me 11 pts plus another pt for being a Broward resident. So, all in all I would end up with about 12-14 pts total.
I was wondering what everyone's points totals are?? I'm really worried that 12 or 14 pts won't be enough. I know the pre-req GPA's are important. Do you think they look at that more than just how many pts you have?
I think that this semester may be a bit more competitive that previous semesters. I know that the only reason that some were able to apply for Jan 09 was due tot he extenstion give to Oct 24. I know that the Basic Core class had over 200 people and before the class was complete they had 500 apps so I have to think that many of the students in that class applied which took the total pool to over 600.
However, I think many there had gpas that were between 2.75 and 3.1. I'm not certain that other semesters going forward will be just as competitve.
Regarding HOSA, I don't think many folks had it so don't worry about that. I would concentrate on doing well in the reminder of your pre reqs and thhe class that you are taking now. Shoot for As if you can.

All together I had about 11-12 points.
I got my acceptance email yesterday and am so excited but also nervous because of how the outcome will be with the nursing schedule and working. I need to work to pay my bills, and hope I can make it through it. How was everyone schedule as in working and attending classes...
It's going to be tough working and completing your first semester in nursing. I mean, when will you sleep? I would consider getting a student loan to cover your living expenses for the first 3-4 months of the program. After you get through your first semester, then you can consider getting a job. I'm not trying to work. I ended up following my own advice and got a loan to just cover the basics.
And congrats to you. I got in, too. When is your orientation session?
Congrats Nurse2be-Kat!
If you don't mind my asking, what was your program GPA, and how many pts did you have altogether?
Good luck working and going to school. I know I would personally not be able to do it, but I know there are a lot of people out there that can and do just fine. Just work hard and study as much as you can. :)
Kat-
Hey scratch what I said, Olive had a better idea, lol.
Olive-
So if you had a 3.6 and no pts for HOSA or living in Broward, then you had 12 pts, right? Thats good that you got accepted with 12 pts, well at least it makes me feel good, because when I apply, I will have somewhere between 12-14 and I was a little worried. Congrats on getting in. I can't wait to be in the program!

The pre-admission orientation is 11/26 at 9am. I believe that this program OSHA is done in high school, I'm not sure but that is what I heard.
