NE1 have any info on broward community college nursing program?
thanks for the helpful answers, it is nice to know that you are going through the career change too. i am in all the wrong prereqs. when i began taking my prereqs in spring of 09, i was positive i wanted to do an accelerated bsn at another school. but now that i have looked into the costs and the timing, i think i want to stay at bc, and then later to a bridge program or skip that al together and go for an msn. if i knew i wanted to do bc's program, i would have taken the fast track a & p i & 2 this semester. but instead i am in a & p 1 this semester, but i took the fast track lab (and made an a) and chm1045 and 1045l. i am already registered for a & p 2 for the first half of the summer and micro for the 2nd half of the summer. because the application deadline is may 15th, and grades come out a little bit before that, they would still be able to look at my a & p 1 and chm grades. do you think i have a shot or is it a brightline rule that you must be done with those specific prereqs at the time you apply? sorry this is really lengthy. well, the good news is-since you have signed up for the prereqs over the summer, and you intend on getting your bsn anyhow, you can take nutrition (i believe this is only offered at central campus) and human growth and dev over the fall, so once you are in, you will be ready to go straight to bsn at program completion. bc requires you to graduate with your 2 year first, then you can transition to your 4 year (they don't offer a bsn up front, per the dean at north-k brown). further, micro is pretty tough and a&p 2 will help you with your basics to get your thru the first 2 nursing classes. my advice is to pay strict attention, and the time will fly by. trust me-it is happening for me right now. are you working? i was told you could work as a pct once you pass the hcp course (did you take that? it is required unless you work in healthcare), and get our cpr certs...

NE1 have any info on broward community college nursing program?
my decision to go to bc was mostly based on getting into the first program that was not too outrageous on my pocket. i still have 18k of student loans from my master's degree at nova, and i am not in business any longer....go figure! the approx. 6k at bc is very attractive compared with 30k avg at private universities you would pay. i believe fau is just about 8k (don't quote me on that), however the competition is fierce, and you can only get in 1x per year for the may class. bc has entry in january, may and august. if you hate school and time is on your side, go for the accelerated. if you want to get in asap and save a few $$, bc is the way to go. hope that helped!

NE1 have any info on broward community college nursing program?
Hi All: I started the program in January and would like to clarify some points: The Dean of Nursing came into the class this semester, and advised although "the college" may get summer Fridays off, Nursing students will not. You do not "select" who you want for the classes; there are specific teachers assigned to each course, and if you are on track/ you take what you get. Pharmacology is Pharm. If you go to another school, so long as the course content is in line, you will receive the appropriate credits for what the University/College awards. For ex. if you take it and get 2 credits, but then xfr to FAU/ they will award you 3 cred for the same class there. I went to Nova Southeastern, and then the Nursing program at BC, and that is what they did. Nursing Process 1 is very intense, but not difficult. It is quite voluminous, but you can pass if you study hard. I am typically an A student, and I got a C in Nursing Process 1. Your standards will change in this program. Hope this helps!

BC Nursing Supplies & Health Insurance advice
Hi all- Let me help you save some money since I already wasted mine! If you join NSNA.com (Nursing students nursing association), they give you a $10 discount with allheart.com (where I bought my shoes and a few supplier), when you spend $25 or more. Their membership is $20 discounted the first year, and $30 thereafter. If you make use of the discount, you end up paying $10 the first year. Further, I see that they offer health insurance, liability for $29/yr., discounts at retailers, etc. etc. Check it out; looks like a great deal to me. My biggest concern has been finding cheap health insurance while in the program. BCC no longer offers this to students, so I am trying to explore my options before I leave my employer. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Applying to BCC Jan 2009
From the meeting, Twana did say that you can switch if you live that far. One thing to keep in mind, is that rumor has it that the best order of campuses to go to are: north central south So you should consider that too....

You should check with the dept (Twana Burney) to see if anyone from South wanted to move to North. Sometimes people register wrong or drop out. Unfortunately if the answer is no, you may just need to go to North for the 1st semester. You can always switch for the next semester, as some students will drop. I was told at the Preadmission, that you must take all your classes on campus- so no, you can't take the Pharmacology online and the rest on campus. Congrats on your acceptance!!

What are the classes like? I mean, are they as in depth as A&P/Micro, or are they more conceptual? Memorization is tough!

I am starting in Jan 09- and it looks like prof Brickman states you can buy all the books for the entire program now; is that right? I am used to the books being changed by the time I take the next class. WIll the books be valid for 1 1/2 years? Do any of you knw what they should cost total?

HI there: I was very fortunate to get this position, with the understanding of my school intentions. My employer has been extremely flexible, and if worse comes to worst, than I can go part time. In the long run, I focus on my goal and longevity of the outcome, while being realistic. I still have a mortgage and life bills to pay, but student loans, and a strong will will make it happen!

How long for BCC Admissions Response?
I don't believe you got the same email I did. I was not told that someone had to give up their seat before I got in. My friend on the other hand was. I didn't ask her specifics/ but hopefully not everyone will take the seats and you both can get it!

How long for BCC Admissions Response?
this is what hers says: broward college's (bc) health science admission office reviewed your records and you have been provisionally selected as an alternate for admission...

How long for BCC Admissions Response?
I don't know; are you sure about that? My friend got an email that said specifically that she was an "Alternate." ...?
