I was watching I Am Cait and a trans woman named Blossom Brown said she was denied entrance into nursing schoolbecause she is trans. She ended up getting a check presented to her on the Ellen show for $20,000 to help her get into nursing school. Has anyone else been following this story? If so what are your thoughts?

When I worked in major West Coast city, I worked with several people who were transgendered. They were accepted by all. It was considered there private personal business. The West coast really is five years ahead of the rest of the country in many ways.

I am surprised that six nursing schools' specified a reason for denial, is it common practice for US schools to give a reason for denial into their nursing programs? I also, do not understand why the schools would open themselves to a lawsuit by specifying a discriminatory reason.

Just because she said doesn't automatically make it true.
I think more information is needed before gathering the pitchforks and striking up the fire.

Sounds like someone was fishing for a pity story. I mean many programs don't even interview so how would they know?
If she was not interviewed by the school, maybe she self identified as trans on her application? I wonder if she sent her applications to schools in states where it is illegal to discrimnate based on gender identity (it's not illegal in all states), like Rua said more information is needed.

I agree that the whole thing sounds fishy to me, and we only have the individual's version of the situation. It may be that she got turned down by the schools and is making the assumption that that's the reason why.

Don't believe it. It's TV and drama. I need ahelluvalot more info before I buy this sob story.
I have a difficult time believing that any school would deny admission based on gender identity. I think there is more to the story than meets the eye.
I read inconsistencies in her version of the story

she calls her course work at the Community College level "undergraduate", does not mention completing prerequisites, and states sh upped her GPA. I just wonder if she was a qualified candidate when she applied?
I agree. Not enough details to be believable.
