Anyone regret ever having stepped foot in nursing school?

I did. I ended up deciding to not come back. I switched my major. I'm happy and I'm myself again. I really do feel I was one of the brave ones to realize so soon. Too much illegal and abusive behavior goes on and nothing is done about it. I remember looking through the nursing handbook and seeing how students were pretty much set up for students to fail. I remember this one instructor failing this girl because she didnt like her and not only did she fail her but she humiliated her. I still know people trying to complete a 2 year degree and they have been there for 5 years! Most students keep their mouth closed about it. Not sure why. From what I understand much of that behavior in NS is just giving you a taste of what its really like working as a nurse. Conditioning I suppose?

I am almost of that point . This week, I start looking into another health professions, because I am passionate about the health field. I have been treated by instructors to dismissal. I had a deadline for today( 01/27/10) to perform as a " 4th semester nursing student"at clinicals. I just started the semester! , but yesterday , I ended up with a pink eye and my doctor game an excuse note. I don't know what it is going to happen. I feel that I need to prove my self every minute in my School,while other students do not. I want to fight, but I am getting so discouraged. If I keep my mouth shot, I can continue in the program, start psych class and re- apply for next year and complete med surg. I talked to the Dean of student services, who pretty much recommended me to "take the ..." and "suck it up...". I am trying to transfer, but I called about 7 other communities colleges( Illinois state) and there is no way. The only way would be tranfer to a University, which I can't afford. What should I do ?

Wow....I'm pretty shocked! I guess it depends on the school and I'm assuming most schools aren't like what you've all experienced, at least I hope so. I'm in my 2nd semester in nursing school and have only experienced positive things about the program and all the instructors I've had so far. However there are a few students I know that all they do is complain about everything and everyone....but I personally haven't experienced anything bad. Maybe try a different school? Anyway....I wish you all luck!

i am impressed yall!!! maybe it is not nursing school you regret, it is the ogres that you came across while in the battle!!!

some instructors are plain, sour heads!!! awful! but... that is not ALL there is to it...!

change schools yall!

PS: My biggest headache in nursing school thus far has been whiny classmates.

If you don't mind. Can you tell me what's your new major? I have a friend who's in a nursing program and she's complaining about the exact same reasons that made you leave your program. I don't think she can take it anymore.:no:

Nope, don't regret it at all. My program has it's issues and had some wonky issues come up that just make you go hmmmmm, but otherswise, it's all good. Sorry your experience differed. May I ask why you still bother hanging around a nursing site asking students why they regret their choice in degree if you've really moved on? I would think you would be too excited about your new major and would want to be spending your time pursuing that?

Oh boy yes. And I'm only in my first semester.... but I know in the long run it'll be good for me (I hope!). There's many things I don't like about it, including an instructor who just threw us in to do a skill when majority of us had no idea how to do it and then if we didn't do it correctly, we have to make time to see a peer tutor. Hi, I am 6 weeks into the program... what the heck do you expect?? Ugh!

Ready to bail myself - my program has HUGE issues and its not the students. Signed up way more students than they had clinical slots for expecting people to flunk out. But surprise they rose to the occasion and they don't know how to "whittle it down"
