  1. Let me put it this way.... my GPA on its way down a mountain at full speed. :-\ Passing is 76% in our school and honestly, it's the only thing I'm hoping to get. Anything above that is extras.
  2. In a few years, it won't matter that you got a C on your exams. Seriously, not everyone tests well, it doesn't mean you don't know the material. Nursing tests are challenging and for a good reason ;-) If your passion is to become a nurse, wake up tomorrow morning with a fresh start and a new attitude and tackle it head on. Focus on learning things, rather than studying to get an A. I do not test well at all; never have. I understand where you're coming from but try not to let the C's bring you down. Most of my friends in nursing school get A's and B's on the exam and I know the same information they do so you can't compare. You can do it!! It's a short time in your life and it's going by fast. Good luck to you!
  3. Could not agree more. I get that it's a great learning tool in a safe environment but seriously, I hate being judged. I hate being critiqued. And that's what this is. Ugh... I also almost always forget what I'm supposed to do right before I go into the room. It's like they pump something in the air vents.
  4. Thank you all so much for your replies!! I will definitely look into the advice you've given me. :) And yep, I overthink all of the time. Argh! Thanks guys!
  5. I realize saying "I'm a horrible test taker" is an excuse but it is true. LOL I find when I take nursing exams for lecture, I always have two answers that are left and end up making a guess as to which one is correct. Is there anyone that has been in the same situation and did you do anything that has helped you choose the correct answer? Any info that is helpful would be appreciated because I'm at a loss.
  6. We use HUGS... never had a problem with it. Never heard of the Kisses portion but it makes sense!
  7. Omgosh for a second there I thought I was back in a nursing school lecture.
  8. Totally the same thing in our unit too. I almost feel the L&D nurses think the PP nurses are slackers... and while there are definitely slackers (on both units), there's no need to assume the entire floor is. Both units have hard working nurses, techs and staff all in one. It irritates me that one unit thinks they're better than the other. We don't have shift issues as much... although when we do, day shift seems to have issues with the PM and night shift. Makes no sense to me and it gets very old hearing the same people complain about the same stuff all of the time.
  9. Yes ma'am, you sound just like me (minus having children)! I am currently in nursing school and will not settle for a job besides the one that I want after graduation. Yes, I've had numerous people tell me that I should start on a medical floor first because otherwise I'll lose my skills. Working in OB you learn new skills you wouldn't learn on a medical floor so there's pros and cons either way. You're going to hear this a LOT from many people (including nursing professors). It gets very old very quickly and somewhat discouraging. I am becoming a nurse because I have a passion to teach new mothers how to care for their babies, to be a compassionate coach for someone who may not have a significant other to help them through one of the most trying yet most rewarding days of their life. Settling for something less (for me) is not an option. So yeah, I get it :) My only advice for you is to start looking for a job at your local hospital as a tech (after you get your CNA certification), specifically in postpartum. It's not a guarantee that you'll be hired when you graduate nursing school but many units would rather hire their techs after they graduate than someone brand new out of the hospital. Techs know the framework of the unit and, in my opinion, appreciate their techs once they become nurses that much more because they've been there. Becoming a tech will help solidify your decision of going to nursing school and give you that edge after graduating that another new grad may not have. Good luck to you!! :)
  10. Just wanted to say... right after anyone makes a mistake (whether it be as a nurse or outside the hospital), we always try to run from it (ie: change units thinking you shouldn't be in L&D). Everyone's going to make a mistake somewhere down the line; whether you're in L&D, ICU, Peds, Med Surg or a doctor's office. You're not superwoman... you're a nurse! Talk to someone at your work about it, review the policy because the only we we truly never make the same mistake again is to make it in the first place. Try not to beat yourself up about it anymore... you've accepted the mistake. Learn from it and continue now on being the best nurse you can be. :redbeathe
  11. I'm a tech on an OB floor and absolutely love it. We ambulate, do vitals, help with circumcisions, weigh babies, bathe babies, peri care on both section and vag patients. It's a very fulfilling, happy job (for the most part). :) Good luck.
  12. Xanax.... Just kidding. Remember that there IS in fact a life outside of school. You almost have to schedule that to keep yourself in check.
  13. My suggestion to you right now is to look at the college you plan on attending for nursing and see what pre-reqs you must have... Anatomy and Physiology there's not much you can do to get those done ahead of time while in high school. However, things like Chemistry and Bio you can (at least for my school) as long as you have a C or better in high school.. so that's one (or two) less things you need to take. It's definitely challenging but you must take it one day at a time. I can't even look at a week's schedule because it overwhelms me with all I have to do. Good luck with your decision and hopefully we didn't scare you off! :)
  14. Honestly, I just want to pass. I do not care about A's anymore. I had a final today we won't know the grade until tomorrow and a final tomorrow that I need to do well on. Just.want.to.pass.
