Any hospital hiring new grads? anywhere in the country?

Published

Does anyone know of any hospital that are currently hiring new grads without any experience? I graduated May '09, and it's so hard finding a job without experience. Thanks.

Yes, Vanny919 fiound a job quickly. Look at the guy-he has 3 years of experience! If we had 3 years of experience we would not be having the problems we are having finding a job. I get so tired of people saying "Get your BSN". My answer is "With what?" I can't pay my bills. I can't get a job as a RN, even though I worked hard , graduated with honors, passed the NCLEX on the first try, have a license, and have experience in another related field. Now I can't go back to my old field because I am overqualified, I'll leave as soon as I find a nursing job, etc... I can't even get a low paying clerical job because I am overqualified. What gives? I am so frustrated.:banghead:

Heh, I know what you mean greyRNtobe. I feel like i need to get my BSN, but I have loans right now to pay and I don't want to go into more debt by going to get my BSN. So I'm kinda stuck right now.

I can tell you, the BSN doesn't help, I have one. Maybe they mean "Get your BSN while you're waiting out this famine." I've had people say to me "Get your MSN." Ha! I actually love being a student but I want to work, and I want to earn back what I spent on the BSN before I go racking up more expense. I think new grad NPs and PAs are in the same black hole of no experience, no jobs.

It is frustrating because I would work as a CNA or an LPN just to get that patient contact. It is frustrating. I was talking to someone today who asked me what kind of nursing I'd like to do and to be honest, the longer I get from school and patient contact, the less sure I am of what kind of nursing I'd like to do and though I hate to say this, I've even begun to wonder if I really want to be a nurse.

I'm sorry I can't be upbeat or inspirational, but I can certainly relate.

Can you give me this hospital name? I live in Brooklyn NY. Since last November 2009 I couldn't find a job I start to think to apply for nursing homes. I am very desperate.

I took a week off the job search last week and I'm back at it this week. I decided to Google "nurse residency" and see what came up.

This is what came up.

I followed the first link, which eventually led to a list of hospitals that have, since 2002, participated in the UHC/AACN Nurse residency Program. I checked the first hospital system listed under 2010 sites list and the Kettering Health System (near Dayton, Ohio) is, indeed advertising its residency program here.

Best of luck!

I recently talked to one of new GN hires, yes, we still hire new grads. She stated to me there were 88 applicants from around the country for I believe 6 positions. Essentially each new GN hire had an "in", connections, really outstanding academic record, personal reference from a current employee of the unit.

We do have plans to continue to hire GNs every 6 months but fewer and we have never had this many applicants for the positions offered.

Anyway I could contact

Anybody willing to move to North Dakota? I don't know exactly what job prospects are like here for nurses (I'm not even in nursing school yet), but we have the lowest unemployment rate in the country. The recession has hit, but not as hard as in other places.

Out of curiosity, I was checking job listings for some hospitals in the region. MeritCare in Fargo has quite a few RN openings (as well as all sorts of other openings). For at least some of them, all they specify is that you graduated from a program that had clinicals; there's no "one-year of experience" requirement or anything, so it sounds like they might be receptive to new grads.

Obviously, I don't know for sure, but I figured I'd put it out there. It might be worth a shot to check out any hospitals up here because there might be less competition. Most people forget that we're even one of the 50 states. ;)
