Any hospital hiring new grads? anywhere in the country?

Published

Does anyone know of any hospital that are currently hiring new grads without any experience? I graduated May '09, and it's so hard finding a job without experience. Thanks.

Nothing new, but everything that I have read so far points to the recession causing an artificial meeting of the nursing shortage. The shortage of nurses is real and getting bigger according to Department of Labor and other sources and once the recession is over the will be a HUGE shortage. However, until it is over people cannot find work which is really awful. But its good to know that there WILL be jobs once the economy picks up. Its the waiting that is unbearable.

If anyone living in NY, Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, NY is usually hiring. It's a very nice, friendly, small community hospital. They are very receptive to new grads and the preceptors are trained to teach. I'm unable to relocate at this moment so I'd like to share this info :)

Have you been successful in finding employment? I graduated in May '09 as well and I am still looking for an employer willing to train.

Sorry to hear that Dawn! I know it must be frustrating. What state/ area do you live in ?

Where in Texas? Eagle pass by any chance?

Not sure if you are still looking...but yes Eagle Pass is hiring new grads and even have a hefty sign on bonus for RN's. There are a lot of hospitals in TX especially the rural areas and smaller hospitals hiring new grads. I just graduated in May and was hired a week later in my small town. I had hoped to move back to my home, Arizona, but couldn't find anyone hiring new grads...including Tucson. I saw that mentioned here, I think the recession there has hit. Texas seems to be New Grad friendly. Have also seen some jobs in NY, TN and VA. Good luck to all those searching. They are out there, you just may have to make adjustments until you get some experience under your belt.

Hi there! I'm from DC and just moved to Virginia (rent is cheaper!) although I'm in the Arlington area. I just graduated in May and I understand your concern about being hired as a new grad. There are plenty of opportunities even though it can be daunting. Almost everyone in my class has been hired even though we were all concerned about it due to the talk of hiring freezes at certain hospitals and the few positions available for new grads. Either way... it just takes a ton of application submissions and faith that it'll come around! I wouldn't be too overly concerned!! You may also want to apply in surrounding areas.. I'll have to travel about 20 minutes to Maryland for my job but its worth it. If you have any questions feel free to ask me and I'd be happy to help :) Good luck!!:)

Hi I have graduated in May still looking for a new grad postision. I have applied over 50 positions in DC metro area so far but no luck...feeling sooooooooooo frustrated. I hear my classmates started getting hired and this makes me scared. I don't know what my problem is. Can you help me or give me any advice??

I have applied to about 15 nursing homes. Does anyone know how long it usally takes to get a response. Several are PRN usally how long does it take to hear something.

I'm from AZ and graduated in May '09 and i also can't get a job. =/ I know I need to network, but where do i start? Also, I have an associates. Do you think getting a BSN will help get a job as well? And one more question.. how can one go about in working in another state? I read that you can get a temporary license for that state until you can get the official one? How can I do this? Thanks.

Yeah I have the same kind of question. Im willing to relocate to another state and ready to apply for new grad positions in texas, Arizona, and a few other states. But you need to get licensed in each state in order to practice in that state. Do I get registered first and pay like 150-200 for licenser in that state and then start applying? Or can I just apply for these positions and tell the employer that I will get registered after Im hired? How has it worked for you?

Thanks

Getting licensed in all the states is certainly making my job search expensive! But I think it helps to have it already done when you apply. Some states take a long time to get the paperwork done. So far I am licensed in 2 states, but think I might need a third. Ugh.

Sweetwater, TX is hiring - ICU, ER, and Med Surg. Not sure on the new grads, but if they're advertising in the paper 3 hours away, one would think they're serious. RE: Licensing, see if you live in a compact state.

If you're a resident in one and licensed in that state, then your license is good in all of them.

I haven't had any luck in the job hunting process in FL ; however, its only been a week since I passed NCLEX and started the JOB hunting process. I can only imagine how it is for you all that have been searching for months. I hope it doesn't take forever and a day for me to find a position because I'm really ready to get the show on the road and do what I spent the last 4 years of my life training for.
