We were discussing the Disneryland measles outbreak at work, and I was appalled to find some of my co-workers refuse to vaccinate their kids. They (grudgingly) receive the vaccines they need to remain employed, but doubt their safety/necessity for their kids.
I must say, I am absolutley stunned. How can one be a nurse and deny science?
As a nurse, you should darn well know what the scientific method entails and what phrases such as "evidence based" and "peer reviewed" mean.
I have to say, I have lost most of my respect for the nurses and mistrust their judgement; after all, if they deny science, on what premise are they basing their practices?
LOL, I got norovirus on a cruise. It hit me just as the taxi was pulling up to our house after the trip was over. Talk about "up and running." I was in the house so fast!
I was so lucky at the timing. I had a great cruise, uneventful travel home, and got home just in the nick of time. Charmed life, I guess.
Will somebody please say something stupid in opposition to vaccines, so I can debate you to death? What's wrong with me?
My vaccines were better than your vaccines. They were blessed by sacred virgins who bathed in goats' blood and chamomile. This was highly recommended by my naturopath.
True, and a Devil's advocate would say your back improved in six weeks simply because six weeks passed, that it would have happened that way with or without the "cracking."
Absolutely :) Because chiropractic therapy was going on during the time the back spasms decreased indicates a possible correlation, rather than cause :)
It just boggles my mind how someone who's more than likely had these vaccinations (without complications GASP) would consider allowing their families to go without. Yes, there's a chance of something happening but that is the same with ANYTHING!!! You take a Tylenol, there's a chance of side effects. You cross the street, there's a chance you could be struck by a car..
These Anti-vaxxers are always so vocal against the vaccines and always reiterate the same message when countered with evidence based facts and studies yet when something like this measles outbreak occurs, they're quietly lining up at their GPs office..

You clearly don't know many anti-vaccine people, if that's what you think. No, they would be more likely to coordinate a measles party.

Ca me optimistic, but I am sure there are the "reluctant" kind that are making appointments, especially after several of those kids will be in the PICU or have encephalitis because of the measles.

I got the flu once when I was in my late teens, and again this year. (Yes, I had the vacc.) Good God, the crap I was hacking up--for weeks--it was disgusting. Every inch of my body hurt. This went on for weeks.
People think flu is just like getting a bad cold or a "bug." It's not. It's 10,000x worse than the worst cold you've ever had.
It took me about 6 weeks before I could take a deep breath without triggering a coughing spasm that brought up thick, tenacious sputum. I could definitely go the rest of my life without experiencing that again.
