Anti-vax nurses? Are you serious?

Published

We were discussing the Disneryland measles outbreak at work, and I was appalled to find some of my co-workers refuse to vaccinate their kids. They (grudgingly) receive the vaccines they need to remain employed, but doubt their safety/necessity for their kids.

I must say, I am absolutley stunned. How can one be a nurse and deny science?

As a nurse, you should darn well know what the scientific method entails and what phrases such as "evidence based" and "peer reviewed" mean.

I have to say, I have lost most of my respect for the nurses and mistrust their judgement; after all, if they deny science, on what premise are they basing their practices?

When parents opt out of vaccination

Megan McArdle/BloombergView

No amount of scientific evidence will ever persuade anti-vaxxers to vaccinate their children, said Megan McArdle. Forcing them to vaccinate their kids will only create a bigger backlash. So, "maybe it's time to stop arguing" with anti-vaxxrs and start treating vaccination the same way we treat other behavior in the public square, such as driving a car. Any American has the "perfect right" to drive an uninsured vehicle --- so long as he or she does it on private property, "But when you enter into public space, you have an obligation to protect others from the possible consequences of your actions." Parent should be advised they are free not to vaccinate, but if they make an anti-social choice, their child will no longer qualify for any public benefits: no child tax deductions, no public schools, no playing on sports teams that use public property, no flying in airplanes. "If you want to home-school and keep to yourselves, you are free to risk the lives of your own children." But you are not free to gamble with the well-being of other people's children.

May not be the same thing, but look at what's been done to the smokers, and how successful it has been, 'in the public square'

I have metastatic ovarian cancer. Should I stop my chemo and just eat an apple?

I'll have to keep that in mind when I'm ready to cash in my chips.

How my Son Helped Me Accept Vaccines Voices For Vaccines

I am a parent who did not vaccinate my children when they were young. I delivered my four children at home. I have the strongest, healthiest, most beautiful babies. My third-born son, Jacob, was born smaller than the other three children. I did not think anything of it because I felt he would catch up. I ate very healthy while I was pregnant with him, as I did with my other three. There were no toxins or trauma that surrounded him the day he was born. His birth was beautiful. And I did everything right as far as keeping him and my other children safe from everything that would cause autism—or what I thought would cause autism

That isn't true. In my opinion that is only the apples that aren't organic and/or GMO.

You are completely wrong and I can't believe you're so stupid that you actually believe that pro-organic propaganda. In my opinion, which is the only one that matters, only green apples contain cyanide. The red and yellow ones are completely cyanide-free and completely safe.

Uh uh! I have research to prove that that's only correct if they come from Washington State. But it's moot because I always buy every last one of the red and yellow apples so your kids have to eat the icky cyanide-laced ones. I'm perfectly comfortable with my decision. After all, the only kids that matter are MINE!!!!!

Well, golly-gee, y'all! What about tomatoes, ie "love-apples"? Or for that matter....HORSE-apples!

All I can tell you is, we are in terrible danger. It's probably best to give up everything, and stay away from everybody!

Pass it along: In 2025 there will be a Great Nationwide Uprising of The Cantankerous Old Goats along with The Crusty Old Bat Society. We have our opinions and we aren't afraid to do what we have to do!

What Do Chiropractors Know About Vaccinations?Â*|Â*Michael Kruse The whole philosophy behind chiropractic care does not agree with western medicine.

The theories behind chiropractor care have been disproven and have no greater effect than placebo groups. The only studies you can find where chiropractor helps is in chiropractor or journals that advocate "natural" medications and treatments.

I disagree with this and here is why -

Every field has its quacks. Every field has its good ones, too. Finding a chiropractor who went to school in a program that taught rehabilitative, therapeutic management of the spine and its associated musculature can be of HUGE benefit to a lot of spine or musculoskeletal conditions. I have a chiropractor who is of a more sports medicine/physical therapy/chronic pain management perspective. I have spondylolisthesis and without regular adjustment, I am hunched over in terrible pain. To say he restores my quality of life and productivity is the understatement of the century. He believes in medicine, he believes in vaccination, and he understands the limitations of his scope of practice. He also acknowledges the nuts in his field.

I saw an episode of Penn & Teller's Bull**** that had bat poop crazy chiropractos and I just cringed. The crazy ones really do destroy the credibility of good ones completely.
