Am I too old to start?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hello, I am 29 years old. I have been working in the medical finance world since I can remember. However, I am looking at taking the leap into rn. I am wondering if I am too old to embark on this journey. Any guidance would be much appreciated. Thank you

Was there anything when you started that your stomach could NOT handle and did it change?

I have a strong stomach and as I've said before, "I can clean up poop and puke and eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich at the same time".

But one thing still bothers me after all these years of being a nurse: If a female patient is uncomfortable with me doing a body check or performing some nursing duty where they will be exposed, I also feel uncomfortable.

I pass it off well and try to make them feel comfortable or ask a female nurse to step in, but still- you know?

I started my ADN at the age of 32. You are certainly not too old. My concern is your writing skills. You will need to write many papers to succeed.

Please speak with an academic advisor for guidance.

Best wishes.

I'm 34 and just getting started! Better to start late than to never start at all! Good luck to you :)

Not at all!!!!! It's hard to balance life, work and school but it's possible. My mom is 45 and I'm 26. Both she and I are finishing up our pre-nursing courses this summer and hoping to start nursing school in the fall. It'll take a ton of work but I think all of us can do it! Good Luck!!

I'm turning 31 this year and just now looking at which community college I can start doing my pre-reqs at! I talked to a nursing school on the phone stating I was turning 31 and wanted to try and do this as fast as humanely possible and she was like "oh, you're YOUNG" so obviously, you are fine ;)

(my question to her was if I do my pre-reqs at their school, do i then have a better chance at being accepted in their nursing program and she said no, by the way!)

Hi! I am fifty and will be finishing my generals this semester. No way are you to old.

No, you are not too old! I just finished LPN school at the age of 51 and I'm going to slowly bridge to a RN.

I have a very weak stomach and the start of clinical's was very difficult for me. Everything bothered me -- feces, urine, mucus, etc. I started off with the Vicks trick which helped a bit. My last clinical instructor taught me to put toothpaste in between two masks and that was by far the best method for me. By my last day in clinical, I had a "surprise" bowel movement clean-up and I did it without the mask (wasn't prepared) and I don't even think I gagged. I was determined not to let my weak stomach derail my dream of becoming a nurse!

Hello. I just got accepted into a nursing program and I'm 33. I used to think that same thing before I started thinking about going back to school but I have been around quite a few nurses that are from all age groups!! Good luck
