All Men Shift

Published

I noticed a huge difference in the past month in regards to the unit culture when we had an all male shift this past month. When working with all males, the shift just seems way way better.

The environment was so pleasant because no one was flipping out because the floors weren't mopped on our shift, no one was throwing a fit because there were not enough small sized gloves in the isolation cart, we focused on RN life saving interventions. I mean two patients coded, both were brought back. During the code everyone was calm, positive, people were laughing, and just all around positive.

I actually left work thinking wow this is a great team to work with.

However, when its a mostly female shift the focus is completely different. I remember a code when women were screaming for atropine, and not wanting to do chest compression because their back hurt. I remember getting talked down to because the room was a mess after the code. I remember the day time supervisor throwing a fit because the pt closet was unorganized.

I really like working with an all male shift. My god it is so much better.

No they can't , just look at all the sex rapes on the internet.

I have to ask...... Are there other rapes besides sex rapes?

Yes, when you go to Epcot and pay $25 for a draft of imported beer, that is indeed a financial rape!

The redonkulousness of this thread is strong. Men should just stay home and not do anything lest their primitive lust drive them into a sexual frenzy in the throngs of the public

Nah, not ever, not me. According to others.

All male shift will never happen for me. I am the only male staff nurse out 300 NICU nurses (both day and night shift).

I mean... I get what your saying. But what if a certain patient refuses care from men? Then you have to call management and blah, blah, blah. So it's not really feasible. Personally I appreciate the male perspective in nursing; it provides helpful insight on a primarily female driven profession. I'm new to all nurses even though I've been a nurse for 5 years. This is the first thread I read that made me want to join in;) one shift that's "all male," is kind of ridiculous but I get it. If I worked with all men I'd probably feel the same lol.

OP's post was a bit offensive to women. I didn't appreciate being placed in such a light that all I would do during a code is scream for atropine and complain about the mess. I'm very calm, cool and collected during a code and pride myself on that fact. And guess what? I'm a woman.

I'm really glad you enjoyed your all male shift, OP (sincerely). I, personally prefer a mix of men and women working together, as a team. We both (men and women) bring different strengths to the table. You do my hemoccult on my 50 y/o male patient and I'd be happy to do your cath on your 75 y/o female patient. Not a problem.

Instead of judging each other because of our differences, how about we work together with our strengths and bring the best team we can to the table, together?

Wow..this thread really escalated. The OP was trying to share a good shift with the "bros" on here just as he said, why did we females start bashing him? I agree with the OP actually, many of the women I work with make the shift difficult, drama drama, drama all around. Cattiness prevails, I can't stand that. I'm not saying all females are that way and all male nurses are the opposite, but the majority I have encountered are.

The men I work with, the shifts go quieter and smoother, because in general men are less dramatic and not as emotional as women. And actually, when we do have several males working, the female nurses often complain that "it's too quiet" at the nursing stations. I prefer quiet over drama and cattiness.

This thread was fun until the women started bashing the men about all this "racism" and "sexism" stuff. It's actually pretty sad that some of the women making these comments are so unsure of themselves that they can't allow the males so have some fun away from the females. Puleez people, who is being racist here? Men and women are different, we were made and wired differently and that will never ever change. So deal with it. At my hospital men and women get payed exactly the same.

All you fellas out there, enjoy your "all male shifts" as long as you can for those 8 or 12 hrs and don't mention it to the next shift, because apparently if a female coworker finds out that you enjoyed it then you will be labeled as sexist and racist and a storm will be raised.

I know my comments will not be popular among some here, oh well.

And I find the comment that was made by a pp about "praying there were no gyn emergencies" to be very funny, and all of you that took it the wrong way need to chill. He didn't imply that that's "all female nurses are good for" as a pp said, and I didn't take it that way at all.
