at what age did you start studying nursing?

Published

from what i have seen, a lot of us here are parents or in their 30s. so i was quite curious.

for me, i'm 17 gong 18. i'm only 9 months into my nursing course. in singapore, almost majority of the nurses start studying at 17 or 18 years old.

Specializes in Emergency/Trauma.

Started pre-reqs at 18, will graduate with my ADN at 22. I will have gone full or almost full-time for 4 years by the time I graduate with my ADN.

Specializes in Ortho/Neuro.

I started Pre-reqs when I was almost 23, nursing school at 24 (almost 25), will graduate with my ASN at 26 and my BSN at 27. I think this is about the median age for my class. We have some very young students 20 and some older ones 40's to 50's. It all works out good. Some of the very young ones are a bit immature  , but that is expected I guess. We all basically get along well.

Specializes in 5 yrs OR, ASU Pre-Op 2 yr. ER.

Started when I was 27 (last year). HOPEFULLY, I will graduate in June 2007 (when I'm 29). :rotfl:

Specializes in Surgical/Telemetry.

Took med school and nursing pre-reqs while working on a music degree. Made my decision and got serious about nursing at 23. Will finish my BSN a month before I hit 25. Seems that about half of the students in my cohort are older, half younger.

Started pre-reqs straight out of high school (age 18)

Started ADN program in aug. "05 (21)

Will be 22, a few months shy of my 23rd birthday when I graduate with my ADN

My plans are to go on to get my BSN and then my MSN.:stone

I was 16 when I began the prereqs for nursing school, and about two weeks past 18 when I began nursing school.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

I was 23 when I entered LVN school and 24 when I completed the program.

I still have no RN prerequisite classes completed, which was my reason for entering the LVN program in the first place. Now I am making plans to complete an LVN-to-RN program in the near future, hopefully before I reach 30 years of age.

Specializes in Endocrine (Diabetes), Pediatric Psych.

Accepted and began studies for ADN (after finishing with my pre-reqs) at age 50 and graduated last month after turning 51. I originally graduated from college in the 70's, but because it was so long ago, I had to retake all my pre-reqs.

Went to college out of high school at 18. Took some time off at 20 (partying and traveling with the airline I work for like an idiot) Moved back home at 25 (tired of traveling, partying and working for the airline I work at) got back in school and will graduate with my ADN at 29 this May
