I've been on anti-depressants...hmmmmm...wonder if it has anything to do with Nursing School...LOL! Anyway, I found askapatient.com to be a very helpful website in making decisions about meds. It contains feedback from tons of people about various meds. They list side effects and effectivenesss they've personally experienced.

can't give advice like it says from the other posters. so a couple of general statements here:
different anti-depressants work differently in each and every person, based on their body chemistry and other things.
when starting an anti-depressant a pcp or mental health provider will monitor progress on the meds closely (or they should/supposed to), in order to get their patient to a theraputic dosage, and to monitor for adverse side effects and suicidal ideations, or s/s of worsening depression.
there is also comprehensive testing that is sometimes done to rule out or include other things like add, adhd, some learning disabilities, cyclothymia, bipolar, etc.

We can't give any medical advice here -- this is something you should discuss with your own PCP (or mental health provider).
