Advice needed on Personality 'Fit' to Specialty Choice

Published

I'm a Nursing Student, RN via Assoc Degree, will graduate 2006...I've wondered if there's a 'personality' test that helps show you what field of nursing would best suit a person. I would appreciate advice from experienced RN's about what Personality fits what specialty in their opinion. Reba

Specializes in Correctional Nursing, Geriatrics.

The test was neat. It rated Pathology as the #1 area for me...which is exactly the area I am interested in pursuing once I get my BSN! I am currently in correctional nursing, which I like very much, but I am intersted in becoming a nurse medical examiner. :)

Specializes in 5 yrs OR, ASU Pre-Op 2 yr. ER.

The top 13 results i got ended in "surgery" LOL.

Specializes in CCRN, CEN.

I got 1.ER 2. Gen Surgery 3. Peds

Specializes in Tele/ICU/MedSurg/Peds/SubAcute/LTC/Alz.

I was in Labor and Delivery right after graduation. It was a great experience, but the commute was too long. Found myself in an Alhiezmer's unit, in Long Term Care. Sometime I work on the Sub-Acute unit. The commute is shorter. I actually thought I would dread it, but it actually is working out well. I am obtaining more skills than the LDRP unit.

The top 13 results i got ended in "surgery" LOL.

Me too I says surgery for 1-10 scary been there done that. Emergency med is where I am and where I want to be and it ranked 41st wonder what were the right answers for that.

weird test.. took it and it was pretty equal on all specialties. The two highest were internal med and immunology.. Med surg will be good to start off at.

I took this little personality test to see where I might "fit in" best as far as nursing goes. It's actually on a med school website, but it works for nursing as well. I wasn't surprised with my answers, actually...lol...especially when I saw that the last on the list was OB/GYN. I don't care where your fundus is or how boggy your uterus is...teehee!!! :chuckle Give me a patient on a vent and drips anyday over a woman in labor. Babies are cool but I don't care much for the mommy part of it. :uhoh21:

I'm with you! They put ob/gyn as one,but they redeemed themselves with number 2 being ER

Neat! I'll have to take it on my break. I'm curious.:lol2:

Specializes in Med/Surge, Psych, LTC, Home Health.

Hmmm, interesting that for me, all of the "surgery" specialties were at the bottom. =) And my number one interest, psychiatry, was number 2.

I'm all thumbs and have NO interest in surgery. Totally not "mechanically inclined".

Interestingly though, radiology was number one. Probably because I love to problem solve, perhaps?
