If you knew the ADON at a LTC facility was having a sexual relationship with one of the CNA's, are you obligated to report it?
As others have stated, unless it impacting work, it is no one's business. It may very well not even be true. Nursing loves rumors, true or not. Most places don't have policies that address this. Some are ok as long as they don't live together or are married. Really most workplaces could care less as long as it is not apparent at work. And you have no obligation to report it unless you notice something's wrong.
Affairs between superiors and subordinates = sexual harassment lawsuits and unwanted media attention. Human resources and senior management usually want to be made aware so that they can circumvent the fall out.
True, but I still maintain that nothing good can come of being the individual who informs them.
Most companies frown upon sex with subordinates. It's a sexual harassment lawsuit waiting to happen, and makes things awkward for people at the same level who *aren't* screwing the boss. Those companies usually have confidential ethics hotlines.
If there is a way to report it anonymously, go for it.
I live in a small town and my facility is very small, so I created a "newbie" profile so I could try to gain insight without fear of discovery. Myself and many of my coworkers are active on this website and I didn't want to take any chances on being found out. This CNA does report to the ADON, so that in itself makes me very uncomfortable about having this knowledge. Plus, it negates any authority the LPN's have when this particular CNA refuses to do tasks as asked. I am all about minding my own business, but this relationship is affecting resident care, and it is also bothering my conscience.

Two ADULTS in a CONSENSUAL relationship, the only issue being that they happen to work together? MYOB. Plenty of perfectly normal relationships can occur at work that have nothing to do with power. I dated the manager of a bar I worked at, we were super compatible and it was not related to power or privilege.
