About the little pocket license you get :)

Published

Hi Nurses,

I have a question for you- when you first get your paper license and they give you the little pocket size license, what do you do with it? Do you carry it in your wallet? Can you laminate it? What?

Thanks in advance!

Mine is in a folder with the rest of the stuff I'll probably have to look up at some time. Our licenses are very ugly or I'd have mine framed. I'm darned proud of that license :).

Oh, but you asked about the little one we got. It's in that same folder ;).

I know that's the plan here in Texas where we are, but have you heard about it in other states?

You can verify licenses online in Colorado. I found out I passed the boards by checking to see if my license had been issued online on the state board of nursing website here in Colorado. They issued my license before I got my test results in the mail!

i got my license about 2 yrs ago and it was not pocket sized! i'm in NY state. the licese was about regular sized paper size and the registration certificate was half of that size. did not get additional pocket sized one to fit in my wallet---would have been cool.

I agree w/ RNgirlie...first licensed in NYS a long long time ago...I think maybe an 8x10 photo frame would've been appropriate, nothing for the wallet. now in N.C. ---have the wallet sized..but they discontinued that in '06. verified on-line now.

I received a pocket license and a 5x7 certificate from the MN BON. (The ink is still wet on mine :>>>)

Licenses are verified online in MN.

I also got the 8x10 one (quite a nice one and is framed) and a wallet sized when I first passed the NCLEX. I jjust had to renew my license and they are no longer using the wallet sized ones but info is available online.

I framed the big one and until this go round when I went inactive they still sent wallet size, but they were already on laminated paper.SO I have 32 of those. I understand now it's all electronic/computer verified.

in ny, you receive an 8x10 paper license and for $20, you can get what looks just like your drivers license, but it has your credentials on it...also your pic...issued from dmv....they say in this day and age w/ all the disasters going on, it might be good to have this drivers license look-a-like to carry in your wallet.

I'm sad:cry: By the time I graduate they will have phased out paper licenses! I was looking forward to having it framed and on my wall! Maybe they will give us a generic one:yeah:

I got a big 'ole certificate 8x10 to frame and a nice little wallet one.

Me too. I was a goober and put mine in a nice frame and it sits on my desk.:nurse:

I think it's a shame that more states are doing away with a tangible license. Heck, I paid $90 for mine(plus the money you have to pay to NCLEX before you test) and I pay $95 dollars each time to renew it, so I want that piece of paper dammit!:)

I have always received the wallet size and everyone wants to see the actual license. They never look on line. I'm in Calif.

I agree with you...give me my license. As for my 8 x 10...well I still need to buy a frame for it. Now which pile of paperwork did I put that in? :)

I keep mine in my organizer that goes with me everywhere. I have the larger sized ones in my filing cabinet. I have never had to show my little one to anyone. Every time I renew, the old one goes in the filing cabinet with the big ones.
