I HATE cleaning poop
I was a CNA for 7 yrs before getting my RN. I was traveling and right at shift change a pt who hadn't poop for 6 days finally (lactulose every 2 hours) started. The CNA called and I said I would be there after report. She said its all over the bed and the floor. I said as soon as report was over I'll be there. When I showed up she started crying. She didn't think I would show up. Of course the oncoming nurse/CNA didn't help. We also had a RN who would give a CNA a task if she was sitting. I know how busy they are so if they get a moment to sit they should be able to.

We’re all being “fired”! Is this legal?
When I was hired to Telemetry I had certain classes to take and had 6 months for the ACLS. I later got certified by my own choice. If you are not happy you should leave. Why not get certified if that's your specialty. As a traveler I floated to Oncology many times and they had me giving chemo. Other places I was not allowed because I was not certified. I have an office job now and happy I am not on the floor anymore.

calling managers
How do you call and do it "Stealth"? Most managers don't even answer the phone in my experience. I know they are busy and like I said I have never received a call back. Ty

Valley Healthcare?
He did ask if I wanted to extend but when I said no he asked where I wanted to go. I replied I was looking for a staff job and he said to let him know if I was interested in traveling again.

Valley Healthcare?
was with then for a year. They only offer me Kaiser which I did and regretted it. Also my recruiter set me up with a non Kaiser hospital and Cross Country was the in between. Lower my pay by 200.00 after I accepted stating only med-surg so not tele so the lower pay. Then once I got there and they wanted to float me to tele I notified the company (I am a tele nurse) that tele pt were on the med-surg floor and I will be floating so my pay should go back to the original. They actually notified the hospital I could not float! So everyone questioned me and were not happy about it. I was embarrassed. Last assignment with them and refused to work with cross country when they showed up to the hospital to see if I wanted an assignment with them.

calling managers
I have been asked to call the managers myself. I did this twice and never got the job. So today my recruiter asks me to call the manager but be "stealth" about it. Told her no that I didn't like doing it. Has anybody done this and had a good outcome?

What Did You Get For Nurses Week?

Sick of being a nurse in the Prison
I have worked with prisoners in the hospital and while some are disrespectful they are not anything like regular patients these days. Pts and their families are so difficult these days I want to leave the hospital after 14 yrs.

Our boss is so awful!
Sounds like my last staff job. I left on my own after I started traveling but she was doing her best to fire me. My "friends" coworkers avoided me because she threatened them. It hurt me at the time but she was let go a few months later. Most of my coworkers found other jobs. I thought I could stand up to her and change things but now I know to keep my mouth shut at work and do my job then go home.

Oakland CA
Not sure about Oakland but the San Fran area is great. I stayed in Hercules and it was okay. I wish I liked my contract better so I could have stayed. I might go back to a different hospital.

What didnt I like about the assignment? besides making 1/2 of what staff was making? They just started to do 8 hr shifts and no one wanted the PM shift so they hired a few travelers and 10 new grads who didnt have a clue about Telemetry. 2 charge nurses that were well know for doing nothing except give you admits. It didnt matter how behind you were, you hadnt had a break by 10 pm, new nurses needed help, they didnt do anything except for telling you how busy they were doing charge nurse stuff. The monitor tech and unit secretary did the assignments, spent most of the shift with personal calls taking hour breaks to spend time on the internet, and leaving to do errands and covered for each other but if they couldnt find a nurse right away called and reported it to the supervisor. One refused to put in orders although she was the uinit secretary for the shift because she didnt feel like working. The thing the staff will tell you "they dont fire you untill you kill 3 people". No CNA's except for sitters and then they only sat. The manager didnt care about anything and you never saw her except when state was there investigating which was 6 times in my 3 months. One nurse had a death in the family and left several messages for the manager and she never returned any call about needing time off or just to touch base with her. Pharmacy closed at 9 and when you asked the supervisor to go to ER for a med that was missing you were told "day shift can take care of it". The last thing that happened before I was finished is a pt I admitted after falling at home and stayed on the floor 2 days till a neighbor found him, had abrasions all on the left side but nothing on his back side. He developed a wound on his bottom and another traveler was called into see the manager because they were positive he had it when he came in and the admit papers and the next 4 days that we took care of him were missing. The state was investigating it and they wanted us to redo the charting to show it. of course we refused. Honestly how can 4 days of charting go missing. They were several on the night shift that were verbally abusive to other staff and no one cares. In 4 yr of traveling that was my worst assignment.
