i am going to OBC in Feb. :)

I've been working in the Federal prison for 4 months now. I had OK days. But most days I feel that I'm not appreciated. Inmates think they are in hotel instead of prison. They demand too much! they want this, want that (right now!!) sometimes i just want to quit my job. some of them are really not respectful at all. i don't know why i entered this field. If I work in a hospital, at least patients will thank me for what i do...

how did u find your job and how long was it before you knew when you were scheduled for obc? --- i just searched where is the bop facility in my area and called the hsa. she then scheduled me for interview. (bop is the only available phs position in my area). i started working in sept, they just told me i should be scheduled for obc in feb. also how was the whole process of working with the usphs and your hiring agency. -- you mean the process of applying? if you take a look at the previous pages, you would see my posts about applying and the frustrations. haha... but, that is the process everyone goes through. my hiring agency wanted me to start asap. cuz they really needed people!! but it all depends on the phs clearance. in the end, i started 1 month later due to phs clearance. any advice you can give a newly graduating bsn? -- i'm a new grad too. so my advice to you is: don't start with bop. don't get me wrong. bop is great! but it's not good for new grads. there is not much training. get some hospital experience first. i wish i started with ihs hospital. but the housing allowance is very very different! (you are looking at around $1200/month difference) so, weigh the benefits.

BSN317: i just got my bonus. 1/3 was gone due to tax!!! I'm scheduled "tentatively" to go to OBC in Feb. I can't wait!

yes I applied for the bonus. I heard they don't give you the money until you come back from Glynco. So I'm gonna follow up on that soon. How about you?

I just came back from Glynco BOP training. What an experience... I hope everyone's doing well with their PHS jobs.

i bought the blue coverall. it's comfortable and easy to get around with. i love it. I didn't buy the summer whites cuz I can't get along with white colors. haha. my institution doesn't have a strict policy on uniforms. so i guess i'm good with the coveralls. gotta order more sets.

uniform question. hi guys, i looked at the uniform requirements, there are so many kinds. does anyone know which ones i need for the bop? (service blue, service khaki, winter working blue, indoor duty white, working khaki...) thank you~

Thank you everyone for your support!! :heartbeat BSN317: I had 2 background checks, the background clearance for the PHS only took me 1 week, however, the BOP clearance took about 2 months. they interviewed so many people (my friends, my neighbors, etc) I don't know if the DOD will have separate background checks for you. I had to do the Q-tips thing for 2 times for both checks.

update: medical, backgound, and board are cleared. my call to active duty is Sept 13. Finally, after 5 months of applying... "We can do anything we want, as long as we stick to it long enough."-- Helen Keller

update: my background and boards are completed. but my Medical is still pending.. I just received an offer from a very good hospital in NY. I don't know what to do. I postponed the orientation for that hospital to Oct. If till then PHS still can't complete my application, I have no choice but to go to that hospital... what do you guys mean "my orders have been cut after 1662?" thanks~~

i think you need a copy of your nclex result with your picture and testing site on it.
