Awww, onehusbandsevenkids, :icon_hug: I'm sorry things are going rough.

I used an A&P coloring book, it helped me alot. Also, mnemonics help. Maybe this site will help you: http://www.medicalmnemonics.com/

It's unfortunate, but because of the vast body of knowledge and the vast quanity/complexity of the body itself, there's just too little time to commit everything to longterm memory (for me anyways). Do whatever you can to get in shortterm and review when you get the chance. :)

first of all, :icon_hug: !! i totally understand where you are coming from. i have been finding my a&p course somewhat difficult(lpn). i can only imagine the rn a&p course, not sure if they are the same. i, too have a couple of kids and a husband and it is hard. i find that i barely have any free time anymore because i am so consumed in my program. after i get my lpn, i'm going to take a year off before i apply for the rn-bsn degree. it can be stressful especially if, like you say, are used to achieving a higher gpa.

question. have you tried using mneumonics as a way of remembering or memorizing? it works everytime for me.

I think the only reason I passed it (With a C) was because I took it online and my dh helped me through. He quized me a lot. I am scared to death to take 2 and sadly I missed the grandfather claus so I also have to take 3 :angryfire

I got a B in the class.

1) I never read the textbook except to look at the pictures, reading where things in are isn't very interesting and you easily lost interest and also it doesn't help much, the pictures help

2) I bout the Anatomy Coloring Book which I bought at Borders, you should be able to by it on Amazon and at any large bookstore, it really helped me out, buy a big pack of colored pencils to go with it

3) flashcards!

4) I drew a lot! If I was haviing trouble remembering a system, lets say blood vessles in the brain I would draw a diagram (like a branching tree diagram) telling me how they branched

5) mneumonics, a lot of teachers/TA's can help you on this, my favorite: Some Lovers Try Positions That They Can't Handle (it describes the order of bones in the hand)

6) study your little butt off (you should have NO recognizalbe butt by the end of the semester!) I studied for at least an hour a day

For physiology I study by highlighting and making a 'dictionary' of all the words I need to know-I do read my book for physiology! I also do the questions at the end of the chapter and many books have online study aids with quizzes and things on it and I use that a lot!

I know what you mean really.

The only thing that worked for me was highlighting the text, then taking my own notes. I would also do the quizzes at the end of the chapter. Lots of hard work but ended earning my A at the end.

I had no time to record the lectures and replay them at home, nor did coloring in the book helped me. Repetition usually does the trick for me. Now A&P 2 is kicking my butt right now, but I am determined to strike back...LOL!

Index cards! They are my lifeline.

There is alot to remember. Don't let it get overwhelming. After each lab class, i make up note cards of whatever it is we have to remember. I keep them in my purse and I go through them when I am picking up and dropping off my kids, or driving somewhere (hubby driving), or waiting for a class to start or just sitting around at home.

I am also a visual learner, so I draw pictures of things I don't understand or am having a hard time remembering.

Also, mental attitude is half the battle. In my Bio class, I spent the first few weeks walking out with the same deer in headlights look. Then I found that even though it seemed nothing was getting in, some was. Once I started typing out my notes and then going through the book and making notes on my typed notes, things fell into place. So I would just take notes during class and tell myself that it would all make sense later.

I took it self-paced. I love classes that way! I could spend time on complicated subjects and breeze through the easy parts.

hang in there. A&P takes lots and lots of work. I took both A&P I and II and loved them both. For lecture, the key is to do the readings and make sure you understand the concepts being presented. If your book has a study guide, use it....it really helps....I would read and outline every chapter, and copy all of my lecture notes. It worked for me, I achieved A's in both classes.

The labs are pretty easy, just strainght memorzation. When memorizing try to chunk your info into groups of 7. Fo example when you need to study the muscular system and all of the origins, insertions, and actions, focus on only 7 muscles at a time. Learn those 7 muscles to the point of exhaustion (ie until you can name them forwards, backwards, and sideways), after you do that, move on to the next set of 7 (trust me this really works)........invest in flash cards, or better yet, make up your own......google some a&p websites...there are some great websites out there...here are some of my favorites:

One of the hardest A's I ever learned. It required me learning in a different way. While some of the anatomy just required memorization, the physiology required a more indepth study plan. Also, A&P I was way harder than A&P II.

Now that I am going to Massage Therapy School (might was well do something constructive while waiting for nursing classes), now I have to study it again...but I'm looking forward to it because it is going to be a more practical approach.

I just need to vent...
I know many, many have passed this before me but OMG!
This is rough. We have our 1st Lab test tomorrow evening, covering everything so far this semester - 4 chapters worth. SO MUCH MEMORIZATION!
My brain is telling me..."you've got to be kidding..."
Its just too much info..too much....
How does everyone do it???? I was aiming for no less than a 3.75 GPA all through school.....thats a joke now. I'm almost convinced I'll be happy
with a C.
I have no idea how I'm going to pass this class. I failed my first lecture exam with a 64%
This is vey frustrating for me, I'm a 3.75GPA student after 3 semesters of pre-reqs and this course is really kicking my butt!
The pressure is really on though...If I dont pass this course, there will be no starting clinicals in January.
After almost every lecture my classsmates and I walk out with these deer in the headlights looks on our faces....the teacher may as well have been teaching in some obscure langauge!
I guess I'm going to have to really, really buckle down and do nothing but spend me time studying A&P. Very hard to do with a bunch of kids, a falling apart marriage and not much of any support! Wish me luck, I think at this point I am failing, I hope its not too late to make it up.

:uhoh3: Yes how does anyone pass this class. I really was enjoying school up until this point. I feel I put pretty much my all in this class leaving my other (little easier) classes on the back burner. I carry flash cards I study almost every night. I also read the chapters adn the summaries, so why when I went to take my first test last night, do I feel I did horrible. :crying2:

We did have extra credit with this Homeostasis chart we were supposed to memorise it was 28 pts. His test had total 128 pts, 100 questions, multiple choice and like 50 true and false which really thru me off. The only thing I am confident I got all right were the matching questions which was match organells with funtions and match 11 systems with functions. Comprhension I guess I suck at. I can memorize but give me a question that I have not repeated in my head a thousand times I will bomb. This class is making me really feel I will not be able to handle Nursing. Now we have started Tissues. I am sure it only gets harder. Well good luck to you. And thanks for letting me whine also.
