Changing careers to LPN in Vancouver
hi there, i realize you are in vancouver, but here are a few tidbits of info concerning alberta. whether you are an rn or lpn you will be expected to empty a bedpan at some time or another. i know that in ltc nursing aides are usually hired to do most of the 'grunt' work, lpn's pass meds and so forth. specialized nursing like maternity & peds are usually reserved for rn's only, due to skill level. alberta wages for lpn's start at $17/hr, more with experience. i rarely see latex gloves used anymore. vinyl gloves are used more and more. and last but not least the demand for lpn's in northern alberta is huge! best of luck! :)

RN to MD
I don't know the prereqs in the States, but here in Canada you need a B.A. in order to apply for med school these days. It wasn't always this way though, up until 10 years ago a person could apply w/o a degree.

I am an RN but am NOT getting training. HELP!!
You should definately be having some form of RN orientation at your place of work now. This makes no sense. Like the other poster said, talk to your NM or move on. This sounds really bizarre. :uhoh21:

Received this email today and I am steamed!!!
:chuckle I thought it was kinda funny too.:uhoh21: There are many more things to work up steam over. Eg. Constant short staffing is one for me....sometimes feel like i'm a Robot.

Failed Boards
i'm sorry that you didn't pass the nclex. if you don't have an nclex review book(kaplan?), maybe you can purchase one from a bookstore or ebay. i hear that it comes in handy. also, how are you feeling before you take the exam? maybe you've been really nervous and stressed out. if so, when you arrange your next exam, why not relax with a nice breakfast & cup of tea before you go, put on a nice comfy sweater or favorite shirt & wear it to the exam. walk into the room feeling confident. confidence, a positive attitude & a non-grumbly belly will get you through next time. best wishes & don't give up. :)

I pass the nclex-pn

Pre-entrance exam & Chemistry?
Is it possible to get a chemistry tutor, just to help you learn the basics? I did chem 11 years ago, but had to do a refresher. HS chemistry isn't too bad. You can do it!

Family Witnessing Code Activities
No, i would not want to see a family member during a code. Especially if it was my child. I would break down.

Pet Peeves
this happened last night. call bell goes off, all three aides are busy toileting or getting residents ready for bed.(32 residents) nurse sitting behind desk 'reading' nursing drug handbook announces over pa that "mrs. so and so, requires assistance!". like hello, get off your a$$ and assist the resident. turns out, resident just wanted a drink of water. biggest pet peeve!!!!!!!!

I Got The Job!!!
:balloons: Congrats!!!! :balloons: $21.50 starting wage sounds about right. I used to be a single mother and agree that it is hard. Wow, look at what you have achieved. You should be very proud! I wish you all the very best.

AAAHHHHH!!!!! How does anyone pass A&P I ???
first of all, :icon_hug: !! i totally understand where you are coming from. i have been finding my a&p course somewhat difficult(lpn). i can only imagine the rn a&p course, not sure if they are the same. i, too have a couple of kids and a husband and it is hard. i find that i barely have any free time anymore because i am so consumed in my program. after i get my lpn, i'm going to take a year off before i apply for the rn-bsn degree. it can be stressful especially if, like you say, are used to achieving a higher gpa. question. have you tried using mneumonics as a way of remembering or memorizing? it works everytime for me. best wishes! you'll do great. keep your chin up! :) edited to add: kelly i just noticed your post mentioning mneumonics! :chuckle

Bossy CNA's in LTC(long)
Sounds like my ltc facility....this is why the DON cannot keep good, kind & decent CNA's, quite a high turnover rate. Some of these nasty CNA's are borderline psycho! I'm trying my best to hang in for another few months, then i'm moving on. So sad when you feel like you're the only one working your butt off. Maybe the DON and management are afraid these wierdos will slash their tires or something if reprimanded?!

And Now.....What Do You LIKE to Do At Work?
I really enjoy working LTC. Honest. :)
