A list of states that do not except EC

Published

I'm sure this question has come up plenty of times. So I was thinking that we could come together and create a list, and then maybe the moderator can make it a sticky (if there isn't one already).

I was informed that Maryland and California is part of the NOT RECOGNIZED list.

I would not make a sticky of a list of the states either, things change all of the time and it is always best to check with the BON of the state that you are interested in working in.

I am planning on moving home to MN to work so i emailed the state BON and they replied saying that if NY excepts Excelsior MN will except it. I wish all states were like that, it would make it a lot easier.:)

NY has always been considered a leader in education. CA's obstinacy on this perplexes me.

CA has to be special about most things....lol And this is not a good thing in most cases........ IMO I think they should have a special clause for the LPN's that want to get thier RN from EC esp if they work with patients on a daily basis how much more clinicals do you need, set a specific amount of time that they have to bee a "floor" nurse before they can be eligable if that is the case. I'm not discriminating againts EMT's or medics I just do not know thier scope of pracitce so do not want to comment on them.

If someone gets their MSN from Excelsior, will CA accept them to work as a RN? Curious.

That is a good question I think if they obtained thier RN via a traditional program or one of the approved distant programs then did MSN from EC then the employer would recognize the MSN.

From what I have read in other post the additional degree does not get added to you license though. That may be a question for the board though above is only my opinion.

on another note about ca they do not accept ec because of lack of clinical hours..bu they allow cna's to become lvn's with x amount of experience and a pharm course...what gives. that is extremely screwed up....

I live in Mississippi and I did the same thing. I e-mailed our BON and they replied right away with a "yes we do":typing

The way they currently do it is to look at the program where the applicant received their prelicensure education (the program that led to the initial RN licensure).

In this case, graduate education (from EC or elsewhere) wouldn't be a factor in determining eligibility for the RN licensure.

that is interesting i have not heard of that...... i can not imagine very many passing boards with just that bit of schooling. in my program we had to do nearly 400 clinical hours and of those only about 40 consisited of basic cna like work (level 1). then lecture 2-3 days a week for 12 months. i live in the la area private nursing schools are making a killing. half our class were already cna's i don't think the word is out there if this is and option.
