A list of states that do not except EC

I'm sure this question has come up plenty of times. So I was thinking that we could come together and create a list, and then maybe the moderator can make it a sticky (if there isn't one already).

I was informed that Maryland and California is part of the NOT RECOGNIZED list.

There are some caveats to several of the states that say no initially. Best bet is to look at each individual state because the states change their licensing rules too.

It also depends on your background prior to getting into EC. Non-LPN's have more problems with the state BON's.

Georgia will not let you sit for their board. You have to test in another state and then be endorsed by Georgia. Makes no sense either way you are still a new grad from Excelsior who can start working in georgia once endorsed?? Just more hoops to jump through!!

I'm with Trauma on this one. One can't keep up with the changes at the various BONs or ECs curiculum changes to keep a current list up.

Your best bet to get current info is to check with your local BON, and then check with EC to see what your ed plan will need to include to accommodate any special considerations for licensure.

Check with your state's BON. I live in Pennsylvania and it does not matter if you entered Excelsior as a traditional student or as a LVN/LPN. Either your state recognizes or does not accept Excelslior graduates. It has nothing to do with being a traditional student, LPN, Paramedic, etc.

It is not listed on the CA BON(as an approved program).

It is not an approved program in CA.This link states the CA is up holding the decision that EC students do not meet the ca licensing requitements due to the clinical experience.......

This is a list of approved distant learning programs approved in CA.

I am sorry, thought you were posting that no information was available for CA. Just read your post too fast.

That's not true at all.

Florida and Louisiana are perfect examples of whether or not being an LPN has an impact on being accepted for RN licensure.

You are right in that most states do not have any stipulations on being an LPN or paramedic prior to graduating from EC, but nonetheless, there are still some that do and the fact that PA does not have any stipulations has nothing to do with what other states decide to do.

Each state governs it's own nursing board(s).

I added info to make my other post more clear, sorry for the confusion.

I would not make a sticky of a list of the states either, things change all of the time and it is always best to check with the BON of the state that you are interested in working in.
