I'm sure this question has come up plenty of times. So I was thinking that we could come together and create a list, and then maybe the moderator can make it a sticky (if there isn't one already).
I was informed that Maryland and California is part of the NOT RECOGNIZED list.
Grad2BRN:I just read your post and I'm currently an LPN in MN, contemplating Excelsior College, and we may be transferred to Georgia. So it would be beneficial to get my RN license while still living in MN, right?
luv2quilt, get your RN license, period. You will open up many doors wherever you go.
As a note, I did the Excelsior CPNE workshop this weekend and, according to the instructor, even CA is beginning to accept Excelsior RN's on a case-by-case basis.
Check with the BON's involved. I do believe that there are some states that will accept you if you have practiced as an RN for x hours. Actually, that's a good first step for anyone considering a distance learning option.

Actual I have a friend that just finished EC in January and took the Minnesota State Board where she immediatley turned around and applied for endorsement in Georgia. She received her Georgia license in two weeks!! She is now doing an ICU preceptorship. More hoops but it is all worth it. Good luck with your studies.

Eric.... Is this to say that if I had not have finished EC prior the December 2003 deadline then I would not have been able to practice either as an RN since completing a BSN from a "brick and mortar" school or as an APN when I finish anesthesia school? I was certain that continued education and experience would erase any hesitation the CA BON would have on the issue. This was only an assumption and I must say I am not interested enough in working in CA to go through the hassle of calling them to find out. I am sure someone here would have the answer for the sake of curiosity.
We called the CA BON about 4 years ago and they said at that time that they would not accept any nurse even with 10 years of experience in another state if they originally when to EC. That seems crazy to me but otherwise I am assuming it would get tricky with setting precedent. But in my opinion even after 1 years experience you already have a huge leg up from a new grad with only clinical experience.
I'm lucky, I guess. Graduated from Regents (now excelsior) in 1989 and have an active license in California which I plan to keep renewed --- and I just moved to a 'sure thing' state - New York! No problems at least as far as education in new york - I'm currently living only a few blocks from EC's 'campus'. From what I remember, there's only a few states that will not take 'old timer' EC grads with experience and if I HAD to move to one of those states I'd check if there's openings at the local VA hospital. So not too worried here.
