A&P 1 Summer 2012 Check In

Published

I'll be registering for my Summer classes tomorrow. And yes I will be taking A&P 1 and it's lab. I've heard so many horror stories about A&P! But I'm trying to stay positive. I've been a CNA for almost 7 years so maybe I'll be able to apply some of what I've learned to A&P. Anyone else out there A&P 1 or 2 this Summer? Let's get this support group started!

Thank u I think that is what I will do, her lab is just so early and I am not a morning person , ahhh such is life

I hear ya! I'm not a morning person, either. The only Anatomy class I could get that had the same professor for lecture & lab (who had a high rating on RateMyProfessor.com) was the 8 AM class...ugh! Anatomy at 8 AM, four days a week for 8 weeks. I'm gonna need some major caffeine to get going in the mornings. I figure, I'll need to set my alarm for 5:30, so I can hit the snooze for an hour...LOL :)

Lol. I'm not a morning person either. I have to set three alarms(one 15 minutes early to get me out of that deep sleep, one 2-3 minutes before I want to get up, and one 10 minutes late just in case I went back to sleep) its the only way I make it to those early-ish classes on time. Idk what I'll do if I ever have job to be at early; I guess I'd have to suck it up.

I am in too. I start May 29th and ends in July 23rd (I think). I am taking this as an elective right now in hopes to one day change my major over to a health related degree when I have completed my BA (I have a little over a year before I complete my current BA).

Let me say that I am so very nervous about this class!!! I have a 3.56 GPA at my University and I am taking this AP at a community college and I KNOW that I am going to drop my GPA. EEEK.

I start Anatomy and Physiology 1 at the local community college next Monday :crying2:

I'll be in it with you all! 10 weeks- 4 hour lecture twice a week and 4 hour lab once a week. I'm nervous, but glad the class will be fresh in mind when I take the TEAS V at the end of the summer! Good luck everyone!

11 weeks that's awesome. My class is 6 weeks, I got the syllabus today and I am in mad panic mode.... but totally psyched!

Taking A&P1 this summer! It is 4 weeks, 2X a day almost 5 hrs each day.

Funny how I was a year and a half into premed courses and A&P isn't even a prerequisite. I've taken A&P1 before, but had to drop due to being deployed. Our prof was a Embriologist and taught at the medical/PA school here in San Antonio. A&P was pretty straight forward, and not much theory to learn. For once, I can say it is almost always pure memorization. The theory is so basic, I wouldn't worry too much about that. This is coming from someone that took Bio 1, 2, Micro, Chem 1, 2 and both organics.

As far as the hardest pre-req for nursing school, it depends on if you are aiming at a BSN or ADN program. Chem 1 was harder than Organic for me. It was also harder than A&P from what I remember.

Good luck!

I just started my 5 week A&P1 course. IT IS VERY FAST PACED, but do-able. I have had 8 assignments and 2 quizzes just since -Monday (today is Weds)....but the good thing is- I seem to have a wonderful professor. He is VERY knowledgable and is teaching us how to learn- as well as giving us good study tips, and goofy phrases to help us to remember stuff. For exampe- the stages of cytokinosis-

I I-stands for INTERPHASE

PASSED P-stands for PROPHASE

MY M-stands for METAPHASE

ANATOMY A- stands for ANAPHASE

TEST T- stands for TELEPHASE

I have a 97 right now, and he is full of great tricks. READ THE CHAPTERS BEFORE YOU GO TO CLASS and take notes BEFORE YOU GO TO CLASS. Trust me, it helps tremendously!!!!!!=) First test is on MONDAY and it's on the systems (general knowledge of parts and how they function), cells, and the INTEGUM SYSTEM in great detail. Im a bit nervous considering my practical exam is on Tuesday. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to retake my first anatomy since over 5 yrs old :( I'm currently taking it and the entire course is 2 weeks long! Not stressful...it's just a lot! Good luck to you all.

Hello everyone! .

I will be retaking my a&p I lab this summer l. It is a 10 week course. I took lab the during the spring 2012 but made a d:( lucky my school has an add/drop course for a&p. It was.really hard course. To me,.it's really hard knowing every muscle /bone in.the body. I have a hard time pronouncing and spelling the words which makes it harder for me to learn. I only have a&p and English 102 (5wks) so I think I will have more study time.

I just finished A&P 2. I got an A in both 1 & 2. My advice to all of you taking it in the summer is to study EVERY DAY! If you fall behind you have a really hard time catching up since the summer sections aren't as long as the fall. If you study every day for at least 2-3 hours you will have no problem getting an A! You must give yourself time to process all the information that is being thrown at you so quickly. Using flash cards and taping pictures to the back of them are very helpful for studying anatomy. Also, bring your digital camera or use your cell phone camera to take pictures of the models in the lab to help you study at home. For physiology, I found it helpful to make charts (especially for hormones and types of white blood cells) when you have multiple things to compare. And READ THE TEXT BOOK! A&P textbooks can be a hard read...but you really do learn a lot from them. Reading before class is verrrryyy helpful! It will be much easier to understand what the professor is talking about in lecture.
