A&P 1 students,,,, How ya doing?

Published

So how are my fellow pre-nursing students doing in A&P 1? We are in week 6 and are finishing up chapter 9 of Saladin's text, and our 2nd exam should be next friday, but we will find out for sure later on this week. So far I am doing good, Got my first test back and I received an A. :) I am a little nervous about the tissues, I HATE histology, a necessary evil I suppose. Our first lab practical is next week and I am extremely nervous about that. Any pointers besides relax?

I'm failing.

I got a 67 on the first test, and a 55 on the second. My professor doesn't believe in teaching, so it's really hard for me to learn anything. I'm trying my darndest, believe you me, but it's not going so well.

Ouch I am sorry to hear that. have you tried to figure out how you learn? Have you tried study groups at all? for what its worth, I can try to help as best I can over the net.

I'm doing well. I am taking it online through Clovis CC and I am finding it fairly easy. I suppose it will get harder - I only just started the Integumentary system (we had tissues last unit and 4 chapters of intro and bio and chem review). I took it 16 yrs ago but I don't remember a whole lot. I'm guessing I will start finding it more challenging somewhere around muscle or cardiovascular.

I'm definitely finding it harder than I had thought it would be. I think primarily that is because I am working f/t as well as running a house with 2 small children. It's tough to get up the motivation to study. I got an 86 on our first exam but the highest was a 91. The lab pratical I got a 42/50 but again, highest I think was 47. No curving whatsoever.

So needless to say, those scores were a wake up call to someone who thought she could pull off an A with only mediocre trying.

We are on ch 6 in Marieb right now and I really, REALLY like bones. Our lab pratical is next week - we have to memorize every last one of the 206 bones because we will be tested on 25, at random. Outstanding.

My professor (adjunct, f/t chiropractor) is pretty fun. But the head of the dept makes up the lab practicals so it's tough to get a feel for what they will be like. For instance, our classes only ever dissected male rats. Well, the practical had females - pregnant females - which made it very hard to see certain organs and structures, all of which were easy to find on the males. Just things like that make me lose a few minutes of sleep at night.

One day at a time, right?

Wow, I am jealous, we don't get to dissect anything. :( We just memorize and our practical is various stations and labeled that we have to identify. 86 % isn't bad, especially with the highest grade a 91.. Good job!

Uhhh, well I got a D on my first exam :( I studied really hard too. It just felt so overwhelming because of all the information that was on it (cells, chemistry, and anatomy). I did fine with the anatomy stuff, but the cells and chemistry I was stuck on. I was pretty disappointed, because I was pretty good at that stuff in high school. I think now that we are learning specific systems it will be slightly easier. He told us not to get discouraged if we didn't do so great on the first test, because we still have a WHOLE lot to do. lol However, I'm not looking forward to the Histology practical either. EWW.

A&P is so hard for me to get! Our first test over cells I got a 70. Our next one is over histology and I'm getting nervous!!! I was hoping it was going to get easier, but we started bones this week and having to memorize all the markings and every freakin bone is scary! Good luck to everyone, this class is a killer!

So far, GREAT. Just had my first exam today (we started class on 9-8-09) over chapters 1-3 in the Marieb 8th edition book. I can guarantee I got an A on this test, though I won't know for sure until Monday, but it was very easy for me. So one down, 7 exams to go.:yeah:We've already started histology - that's going to be a little harder for me trying to identify all of those tissues, ugh!

A&P is going great, we finished tissues and the Integumentary system. I got a 100% on the lecture and 95 on the practical:yeah:. However, the professor is really great, he gave us a practice test a week before with 30 questions and the answers which where on the test. We started joints and the skeletal system yesterday. A lot of information and I am starting to get nervous. We will not be doing any dissections... whew:D. Practical exams he uses a powerpoint slide, we dont have to look through microscopes.. very cool.

I can't emphasize enough, how much a professor can impact your grade. I bombed my biology class last semester, passed by one point. Studied my butt off and didn't make a dent in my grades. She sucked big time... this class has helped me regain some self confidence.

I'm in week 4, we are still doing cells. Our first test is next Thursday. I got a 92 on the first quiz, and I'll get my second quiz back on Friday.

We dissected the rat already, some of us had males some of us had females. I hate my professor, she doesn't really teach but there are awesome on-line resources and a few of us have made a group and we are helping each other help!

It's hard to say how my class is going.. My A&P lecture teacher has been out all week!! We were supposed to have our test weds. and she still has to talk about chap 4 in marieb..so our test has been pushed to next weds. We are covering chapters 1-4. OMG so much info..I think/ HOPE I have most of it down. I had my first lab practical monday and got a 76% I dont know what the other scores were but I wish I did a little better.. I hear that the first test is the hardest just because it covers so much info. the next tests and chapters are more focused on one topic!
